Our signature beer, Black Bavarian, is renowned for its drinkability. This light to medium-bodied Schwarzbier (black beer) features superb malt and hop complexity. Beneath the creamy tan head, within the lager’s smooth mouthfeel lie flavors and aromas suggesting dark roasted coffee, caramel and bittersweet chocolate. Masterful hopping makes Black Bavarian both lighter and drier than expected. It has a pleasingly long finish. The kind that lingers just enough between sips, the kind that makes this rich flavored brew so easy to drink.

Smell is a little meaty dark. V ery nice black pour tho not opaque. Burned woode flavors from the beginning, turns interestingly bitter but never over the top. Yes, a real dark beer experience without that nasty bitter high alky experience. Makes me wish I lived closer to wisconsin, eh? Lively average carbonation. Zoomee zoomee zeemee. A very inexpensive beer that is high in the percentile. Does not show its alky content willingly. Overall a decent example that a cheap beer can provide many of the characteristics that a good beer should.

bottle - Pours very dark brown with a one finger tan head. It has a roast malt aroma with a small hint of chocolate. Flavor is sweet roast malt with some chocolate notes up front and a lightly hopped finish that balances it out nicely. Light to medium bodied with ample carbonation, it’s a good quaff.

Re-rate 7/23/11: Bottle. Beer of the month club. Almost opaque black color with a medium beige head. Nice roasted malt aroma with toasted bread, caramel, some nutty chocolate and some coffee. Sweetish flavor with roasted malt, caramel, coffee notes and a bitter herbal and roasty finish. Medium-bodied. A very good Schwarzbier. 7/4/7/3/14=3.5

16oz bottle. Black with stained-glass colored edges. Minimal white head. Sweet, almost sugary. Brown sugar, caramel, light smoke. Minimal hops covered up, and way in the background. Overall a pretty good Schwarz. Fresh, and enough balanced dark malt flavor to keep it interesting.

Pours black, mahogany. Aroma, I cold not help but detect some very light smokyness. Malty and light fruits. Taste, malty, smokey, with some very nice chocolate and grains. Some dark fruits (fig/cherry) and roastiness. Another great offering by Sprecher.

Bottle. Dark red/brown almost black body with a small beige head. Looking great. Moderat malty aroma. Flavor is gentle roasted malt, some caramel, otherwise quite clean malt flavor. Not much bitter, light, refreshing and harmonic but I’m not exactly impressed.
