Brewed in Houston, ZiegenBock is a beer of the South. Only available in Texas, this American-style amber lager offers notes of roasted grains in the aroma and a sweet, smooth taste with a hop finish. The select imported hops and specialty malts create a taste worthy of a 2006 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal.

Pretty much entirely terrible. A little worse than the Honduran lagers I’ve been drinking for the past week. Pours amber with OK head and lacing. Rusty, and paint thinner aromas. Some caramel. Tap at Houston airport.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a bit of a cola glow and a super thin, small layer of a tan head. Aroma of vanilla, caster sugar, caramel and a touch of toasted malt and perhaps some light nuts - not much else there at all. Light-bodied; Strong toasted malt flavour with a bit of cereal and grain noticeable, some pungent caramel notes and a little bit of a nutty and metallic twang at the end. Aftertaste shows some decent sweetness, but mainly a grainy, cereal and metallic flavour that doesn’t show too well. Overall, a noticeabley mass produced beer with some decent flavour, but not enough to pass as a good beer worth drinking again. I sampled this pint on draught at Friends Bar in Austin, Texas on 05-May-2014 for US$4.99.

Location: Draft at IAH, 9/12/13

Aroma: The nose is light and malty, some earthy and must notes, quite faint though
Appearance: The pour is a nice dark amber color with a froth of beige head
Flavor: The taste is sweet and malty, lacks a balancing hop presence of any kind
Palate: This one feels a little watery and slightly sticky, plus-carbonation, short finish
Overall Impression: When this is the closest thing to craft you have other than Sam, you have a beer selection issue. You didn't need to know this was AB to know this was AB. AB making a beer only for Texas: your expectations will be correct. At least it has a decent look.

On tap. Described by the barkeep as a dark \"Texas beer.\" When in Texas, I guess... Body is a really dark amber or a fairly light brow. And head is very small. Aromas are sweet and sugary with caramel and toffee, almost like a Werthers or something. Flavor let’s less of the cloying caramel show through than I would have guessed as it is balanced out by a slightly cidery apple presence that seems a little out of place. I’m starting to miss beers that aren’t \"Texas beers.\"

On tap at the Fudruckers in the Houston Airport. Pours dark copper, with little to no head and no lacing. The aroma is caramel, wheat, plums, bananas, and some saaz hops. The flavor is very sweet, with some faint bitterness in the finish. The palate is light to medium, grainy, syrupy, with a faint alcohol finish. Overall, this is a very malty, sweet beer. Fair.

On tap. Pours a clear amber with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of bread and grains and not much else. Flavor is watered down, some grains. Not good.
