Our E.S.B. is a balanced beer with notes of honey, toffee and
caramel, backed by a warm spicy hop bitterness. This beer has a clean, soft, malty start, developing honeyish notes and finishing with a late, dry subtle hoppiness.

Draught @ Barcade, Jersey City, New Jersey. Pours slight hazy brown with an offwhite head. Aroma of malt, little caramel, light grainy, light grassy hops. Flavor is light sweet, malt, grain, hint of caramel, grassy hops. Medium body, average carbonation. A tad boring, but not infected. 230418

22 ounce bottle. Hazy Amber orange color topped by a massive rocky beige head. Medicinal, caramel malt nose. Unusual, tart toasted malt flavor. A bit sour and funky. Not typical for the ESB style. Meh.

Seems like this is old and not very well maintained. Pours orange with OK head and lacing. This is either off or not well brewed. Bottle from total wine.

Unruly, bizarre aroma of latex paint, bubblegum, feet, cedar, and varnish. Clear amber, huge sticky off white head. Foam climbs out of the bottle from what was left behind from my pour. Vinegar and cedar, mold and moss. Ugh, something seems wrong here. It feels like an ambitious effort at greatness but fell short of mediocrity.

Bottle. Pours amber gold with off white head. Nose and taste of sour grain, yeasty fruit, grapefruit peel, barley and baked bread. Slight infection. Light/medium body.

12oz bottle I picked up at Total Wine in Sterling. Pours a hazy, dark orange with some rocky, lacing, white head. Uh oh, aroma makes me nervous; stale cardboard, some dried lemon peel, rotting white grape. Whoa, flavor is definitely infected, strong grapefruit peel, cardboard, nettles. Trashy finish. Bad bottle maybe? Either way, drain pour. ***** Re-rate from December 2014. 12oz bottle pours a hazy orange with some foamy, white head. Nose of garbage, rotting tropical fruit, plastic, dust. Flavor has guava, mild pear, trashy though, hints of butyric acid, pixie sticks. Super carbonated, harsh finish. Worse than the first time I had this. 3-3-5-1-6.

Poured at home from a 12 oz bottle. Both sweet fruit and sour yeast notes in the nose. Sour cider flavor. Perhaps off? Not real tasty.

Not bad ESB, knocked another MJ 500 Classic Brews off my list. Amber in color with an off white head that lasted for a little while. Caramel malt and floral hoppiness. Nice relaxed ESB with a very balanced flavor, nice.

Slightly hazy orange coloured body with an amber glow and a ridiculously large, ten centimetre tall soapy tan head. Aroma of yeast, wort, sugars and a quite a bit of hop pellets - not much more. Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and floral notes up front with some lighter hop notes, but showing a bit of malt and way too many soapy type flavours - not very complex. Aftertaste shows a lot of malty and earthy notes with some english hop flavours and even more grass and especially clean soap. Overall, way too carbonated and not complex enough to be a good beer, but the flavours don’t remind me of a good bitter or ESB at all. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle from a six pack, purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey for US$8.75/6pack sampled at home in Washington on 08-June-2012.
