Draught at the brewpub. Dark brown, creamy nitri head. Spicy grassy aniseed aroma. Dry and very roasty with notes of chocolate and saké as well as bitter cocoa. Big, concentrated roasty flavours, marked powerful bitterness. More alive, more for real than the regular commercial Irish stouts.

tap at the brewpub - Pours near black with a lingering tan head. It smells of roast malt and chocolate. The flavor includes dark roast malt, chocolate, and a hint of smoke. It’s medium to full bodied and quite nice, easily the best of the five brews I tried at the brewpub.

(Cask at GBBF, London, 7 Aug 2008) Black colour with brief, pale brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of coffee and cocoa. Roasted, malty taste with strong black coffee, dark chocolate and a generous coffee bitterness in a clean and fresh finish. Medium body, dry. An excellent example of irish stout.

Cask at the GBBF 2008, gravity dispense. Pitch black colour, minimal head. Nice roasted aroma, notes of coffee. The flavour is also roasty with notes of coffee, but the mouthfeel is a bit thin. Fairly dry. Some hints of liquorice and dark bitter chocolate, but not really impressive. Rather "dead" finish with a moderate bitterness.
