A traditional strong “Imperial Pale Ale” beer, that’s light in body and amber in colour. Refreshing tart initial bitterness with subtle malt flavours. The big hopped finish is dry with citrus notes

Sampled @ GBBF Day 2. Clear orange color, medium sized off-white head. Smell and taste malts, quite bitter, a slight hint of leaves and caramel. Average to decent body, average caronation. Ok beer.

Pint at some random place in Dundee, pours a clear orange with some creamy, lacing, white head. Nose is not real great, no clue why this is an ESB, it’s a mess, yeast, mild honey, plenty of butter, some orange. Flavor is a buttery mess, buttered biscuit, yeast, dough, mild orange. Creamy finish, which is sadly the best part. Train wreck.

Keg from Growler Beers - a 30th birthday gift. Clear amber body with a faint off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of copper, tea, earth and grass. Flavour of dusty hops, dirt and musty citrus. Thin body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. A decent beer with a light, hoppy finish.

Chelmsford Summer Beer Fest. Cask. Almost clear gold beer, tidy pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry, mild fine carbonation. Light malts, dry and thin. Sharp pithy grapefruit and orange marmalade hops, fairly bitter. Light dry finish with a moderate bitter linger. Not bad but a bit dry.

Cask. Golden. Quite hoppy, spicy, earthy crackery malts. Tons of butterness. Really nice. Refreshing, long bitter finish. Freshness matters with this one - at the brewery it was poppin’ but at the JDW in Inverness it was less compelling.

On tap @ Teuchters, Edinburgh. Appearance - dark side of golden. Nose - some toffee but more of a malt to biscuit finish. Taste - toffee and pine. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - solid cask ale. Whoever loaded this onto Ratebeer has made the fine observation that this is a Premium Bitter rather than the IPA that is in its title.
