Flint knapping' is the process making of simple tools by hand from flint. As with brewing, it's a skill that requires much care and concentration. Flint Knapper is our celebration of these traditional practices. A select blend of pale ale and chocolate malt – and our use of Goldings hops – have given this smooth ale a rich amber colour and a taste with malty overtones.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. Attractive amber colour with lasting dark beigehead. Slightly coffee caramel aroma and flavour. Good nick. Fullish in mouth with raisins/sultana fruit mixing with fullish malts and slight creamy coffee to give a fruit cake feel. Very good deep full bitter. Decent hoppy sting on finish. Not really my style, but I still give it a good score for the flavour.

Cask@Kittys (fastest caskchange & linewashing I’ve seen). Amber colour, mediumsized beige creamy head. Aroma is wood, mild sweet matls and a bit sourness. Flavour is wooden, quite nutty and dry erathyness. Aftertaste has some mild fruityness too. Really pleasant bitter.

Cask-conditioned at the Knights Templar (JDW), London WC2 16/5/08. Reddish-amber colour with a decent white head. Aroma of caramel and red fruit with some earthy hops. Flavour was sweetish, with plenty of doughy malt, fruit and a long, bitter finish. Enjoyable.

Bottle, picked up at Millets Farm shop near Abingdon, Oxon, a week or so ago. Pours a ruby colour, quite tasty some nice fruitiness and malt with maybe just a touch of a hoppy note in the aroma, much better than the Gold I had last week.
