Double Barleywine aged over four years in rye, bourbon, port, calvados and maple barrels.
This is a non carbonated beer. Clean and well balanced, Don has enticing aromas of black walnuts, coco and spices, followed by flavors of ripe cherries, plums and dark chocolate. Definitely a sipper, made to expand the idea of beer.

At the January 2026 DC Brewver gathering. Bottle. Poured a dark copper color, mostly clear, but a dark hue so it's harder to see through it. Aroma was really nice herbal notes, big booze, but like smooth bourbon woody booze and not straight up boozy heat. Incredibly smooth. Really nice caramel notes. Alcohol is really well integrated. Raisins, bourbon.

16oz bottle pours a thick brown, no head. Nose has herbs, big licorice almost a Jaegermeister. Some smoke, malt. Flavor is booze and herbs, Jaeger, some wood. Long finish, still hot. Lots happening.

Double barley wine!! RIP HoD. Leather and tobacco smoke. Maybe some salty toffee. Pours dark maroon. Some jager vibe like nimbleprop says. Pill bottle thanks to Beastiefan.

16.9 ounce screw top bottle purchased from the HotD website - consumed about 1/3 of the bottle and am saving the rest for another day - lightly hazy ruby - deep nose of treacle, raisins, fig, port, Madeira, cherry, oak, light butterscotch - bottled still, but the heft still makes a substantial mouthfeel - sweet and port-like, but with earthy and oxidized sherry notes - subtantial depth from the spirits barrrels - brined cherry, treacle, chocolate, raisin, fig, oak, charred sugars - hints of earthy peat in the finish, which is long and warming - so much depth - an amazing sipper that satisfies similarly to sipping a good whiskey - thanks to the screw top bottle, I’ll have to savor this a few ounces at a time for as long as I can.

Stubby bottle: Poured a deep brown color barleywine with no real foamy head. Aroma of deep caramelized notes with dry candied fruits. Taste is also a mix of deeply caramelized malt notes with dry candied fruits and a sweet finale. Body is pretty full with good carbonation with some discernible alcohol notes. Nice thick barleywine - one of a kind.

Deep mahogany color. No head. Maple, rye, vanilla, tons of burnt raisins, calvados, vanilla, milk chocolate, tootsie rolls in the nose. Super sweet. Super boozy, flat palate. The booze distracts but still amazing depth.

16oz bottle. Pours cloudy brown with no head. Aroma has malts, winter spices, bourbon, brandy. Flavour has dark cherries, dark chocolate, port, bourbon, stale bread. Boozy warmth. Interesting beer, tastes less like a beer and more like beer was used as a platform for the various barrels. Very well done, considering the strength and mix of barrels used.

Medium brown, no head. Big aroma is, shall we say, barrel-forward. Port and calvados dominates, some bourbon, and it's almost hard to pick out the base beer there's so much barrel. On the palate, there's no carbonation. The barrel is still very prominent, muddle a bit, calvados, port dryness. Not much to the base beer, maybe a bit of support. Not actually sure what to make of this. There's some things to like, but the flatness and lack of conviction to the base beer just kind of undermine it.
