Cask at the Bedford Arms, Bedford. Dark chocolate brown with a bit of tan head. Aroma of liquorice, plums and coffee beans, with a bit of coal smoke and chocolate. Taste is mostly sweet with a slight vinegar sweet-sour bite at the end. Pleasant bitter-sour finish and aftertaste. Body weaker than I’d expected, and quite flat. A mixed bag.

Cask gravity at Haddenham Beer Festival, Haddenham, Bucks, 05-07-08 Pours black with no head. Coffee and smoky nose, unlike others here I was very surprised by the bitterness and lack of sweetness, also got the taste of coffee granules in my mouth, I really liked this.

Cask gravity at Reading BF 08. Black with dark brown edges, thin beige. It’s quite a bit of ashtray. Bit smokey. Bit grainy, bit dry. Peaty even. It’s not bad. Going a bit flat in condition maybe.
