[Bottle from Norfolk Square Brewery shop, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk] Black-brown, no head, too fizzy for a stout. Smells chocolatey, tastes of smoke and roasted malt with red wine and coffee behind. Little bitterness. Finish sticky yet dry. OK.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Very dark brown colour, almost black, with lasting frothy pale brown head. Malty, roasted, slightly fruity nose with notes of chocolate, dark bread and black-currant. Malty, fruity taste with dark chocolate, coffee, dark berries, black-currant and a balanced cocoa bitterness in the finish. Some fruity sweetness throughout. Medium body with a slightly prickly mouthfeel. Nice beer. In short: malty black-currant chocolate stout.

Bottle, thx to fonefan. After gushing out of the bottle, it presents itself in the glass with a really dark brown body, seemingly clear, and topped by a nice, dense tan to beige head. Coffee and chocolate dominates the aroma, but there’s also some citrusy and dusty notes, explaining the gushing maybe. It’s sourish in the mouth too, but mostly tastes like coffee and chocolate, with some burnt malt. Full-bodied and dry, with coffee in the finish. A quite nice one, even thought I suspect it was on it’s way to go bad. (080824)

(Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of fonefan. Opaque black with a tint of red and a light brown head. Delicious port-like nose with some hard roasted malt, but never burned. Quite full-bodied with sweetih roasted malt. Finishes only lightly bitter. More of a Sweet than a Dry Stout. 240808

Hand-pulled cask. Dark as pitch, only covered by a few bubbles on the top. Sweet, dark malty aroma with notes of coffee. Complex flavour with a core of tart cherry and late fruits woven into a dark malty backbone with hints of anise. Bittersweet endnotes. Well bodied ale.
This rating completes my drinking sessions at The Great British Beer Festival. Great festival with splendid arranged rating conditions - I love to return in 2009! (09.08.2008).
