500 ml bottle, bought in Scarborough. Bottle conditioned. ABV is 8.4%. Deep golden colour, huge head. Lovely aroma of hops, orange and oak. The flavour is hoppy and fairly sweet, notes of bitter oranges and spices, the alcohol is noticeable. Bitter finish and aftertaste. Must be a great accompaniment with mature cheeses. Nearly too powerful on its own.

Bottle from the brewery online shop. Pours clear dark gold with a thin white head. Slightly boozy nose, almond and orange. Taste is light sweet, toffee, some herbal hops and more orange. Boozy but nice.

Bottle, 500 ml, courtesy of and shared with JFK. Orange colour, white head. Very light sweet malty aroma.. Malty caramel, bready, sweetish at first, bittery finish. Thin to medium body.

Bottled (backlog). Slightly hazy amber colour, small white head. Aroma is bready, sweet fruity, mildly alcoholic and some glueish and toffeeish notes as well. Flavour is very similar, but is quite strong on the stinging sweetness.

500ml bottle from Cheese & Wine Shop, Darlington. Clear deep amber gold colour, foam off-white head leaving lacing and fruity aroma with raisins, apricot. Taste is sweetish, malt, toffee, warming, fruity, plus some grassy bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, lingering dry grassy bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.

Golden. Foamy, white head. Moderate aroma of candy sugar, green apples and cinnamon. Equally moderate taste of green apples, fermented plums and dried fruit. Fruity aftertaste. Drier than expected from a barley wine. More a like strong Belgian blond than a Barley wine.

Nose: brown sugar, alcohol, slight brandy. Taste malt, bitter hops, syrup, the alcohol is too prominent for a beer that is only 8.4% . Mouthfeel is surprisingly thin, no carbonation, slightly flat. A poor barley wine, with very little depth. I suspect that this bottle maybe bad. It’s odd; I have only ever had 3 beers from this brewery and the other 2 were off. I suspect issues of quality control.

Cask at the Birmingham Beer Bash 2013. Poured a clear dark amber with a thin white head. The aroma is rich crisp red berry fruit leading to a medium to weak bitter flavour with fruit and weak yeast on the super smooth palate. A very heart warming beer that was not dominated by the alcohol.
