A classic and highly popular amber coloured session ale. Based on a recipe handed down by generations of Hydes Brewers, this is our biggest selling product. We use a combination of the finest malts and English hops – Fuggles and Wye Challenger to provide a fruity and spicy palate. Like all of Hydes cask ales they are dry hopped to add aroma and depth to this Moorish beer.

Hand pulled half pint at the Vine Inn, Nantwich on 17th December 2025. Lovely amber body, clean and clear, off white head. Nice, easy going blend with a malty edge. Some fruity hop action towards the finish.

Cask at Vine, Nantwich. Pours golden brown with a small off-white head and good lacing. The aroma has mainly malts with some traces of honey and floral hops. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy but with some underlying bitterness. Flavour has hops and autumn fruits plus some hints of nuts and herbs. Bitterness increases in the slightly dry finish. This is OK, just rather boringly average.

Cask at the Old Horse, Leicester. Golden brown, clear with very little white head but lots of lacing. Malt, chestnut, buttered toast and a touch of orange peel on the nose. Sweet taste with some sour/bitter notes in the finish. More nutty, medicinal and bready flavours in the aftertaste. Not a popular style of beer but this is pretty good.

On Cask, yesterday, at the Anglers Arms, Manch. Didn't get a chance to write notes as the barman was so chatty. Decent old-school bitter. Has some.character to it. Copper with a medium white head.

Cask at the Jolly Angler - MCR. Pours clear gold with a thick, creamy white head. Simple bready pale malts in the nose, very slight citrus notes, vanilla. Light-medium sweet flavour with creamy bread, subtle meringue, dough, minimal hop character. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with more simple pale malts, mashed banana, roar, faint ripe lemon, hay. A very simplistic beer, but perfectly drinkable.

Pint from cask at The Grey Horse in Manchester with JR and MEH. Clear golden. Persistent beige head and lacing. Moderate aroma. Fine and well-balanced taste, with pale malt and some hops. Very smoth and extremely quaffable. Just as a good bitter should be!

Clear golden beer with a decent foamy head. Very little aroma. Light, slight sour citrus hop aroma. Bit of hop with the fruit in the flavour. A touch of nut in an otherwise watery finish. Bland.
