GFB our Golden, with the sort of light clean tasty quality which makes an ideal session ale. Tasted to destruction by our brewers, GFB our Golden Best has a hoppy aroma and is packed full of the very best East Kent Goldings, leading to a good dry finish.

Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol 4/1/08. Deep gold with a slight white head. Aroma of hay and floral hops. Flavour had some sweet malt, apricots and a decent grassy hop finish. An enjoyable bitter.

Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, moderate hoppy, flowers, grass, lemon. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, and a dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily / creamy and very smooth, carbonation is soft to flat. (150108)

Draught pint at NERAX on 5/2/07
Small, manageable white head is creamy and retained modestly well. Beige-golden body is fully bright. Little/no lace.
Very malty nose delays the presence of the hops, which are very, very soft and lightly floral at most. Some nuttiness, not really a crispness and light pepper-like notes sit on the finish, with a very clean yeast presence adding very soft, fruity esters. Mostly, it is a medium-sweet, creamy malt full of baked white bread, light barley grain and some biscuits. A deeper streak of buttercream runs through it, though is distinctly not diacetyl. Medium strength of aroma, some light paperiness and tannin on finish. No alcohol or flaws.
Very malty flavor up front has vanilla, buttercream and bread dough all providing a fair complexity, but a slightly seltzer-like finish, almost like a hard-pretzel, stemming from the yeast, nuttiness and dry malt tannin, seems rather bland and not really crisp. True, there is some hoppiness, but EKGs are never very crisp and the bitterness is extremely minimal. Still, it’s well-done to style and flawless. I guess I’m just not crazy about the malts and the slight hardness/graininess. Not enough balancing softness nor a supple enough texture. Medium-low carbonation.

Cask handpull at Head of Steam, Euston. It has been ages since I had this. Golden, thin white head. Slightly nettley farm yardy aroma which to be honest always puts me off. OK in mouth with some grapes, bit wet, not enough body for me. Then dry, dusty hop finish with tingling citrus acids. OK, but not a big fan

[Cask at Volunteers Arms, GBBF 2004] A yellow beer with a small head. It has no aroma and the flavor is boring malty.

Sampled cask-conditioned at the Cayo Arms, Cardiff...Light amber; earthy, minerally aroma, light caramel, some tin character. Moves into chalkiness on the palate, and a slightly earthy hop finish.
