This style has evolved as much as the beer scene over the last few years; a throwback that came back and transformed into something new. With our latest iteration of it, we've tread the tightrope that forms the line between innovation and tradition.
A not-overly-engineered malt base lends clarity in both flavour and in the literal sense. Tried and tested Citra and Cascade deliver lime pith, tart grapefruit and grassy pine, and the addition of Zappa brings a touch of spice and tropical notes.
Assertive bitterness cuts through hop oiliness, leading to crisp, dry and refreshing finish.

On tap at the Beer Shop Folkestone. Hazy gold colour lasting white head. Good aroma pink grapefruit and fresh. It's a light west coast ipa. Some grapefruit. I would expect a bit more malt. A bit more bitterness it's a light west coast pale ale. Aged it's 8 quid a pint. Not worth it at all, too fizzy with a carbonic acid finish .OK but wanted more for a 8 quid pint.

Panda at home, thanks to Kenny, 11/05/2025.
Clear golden topped with a just off white head that thins to a swirl.
Nose is mellow citric flesh, grass, papaya, melon, soft malts.
Taste comprises grass, melon, light pine, perfume, soft malts, mandarin, grapefruit.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close spliced with juicy come grassy hop bitterness.
Solid punchy pale.

Can. Near clear paleish gold beer, small off white head. Light palate, a mild dryness, reasonable fine carbonation. Light smooth pale malts, a barely there sweetness. Soft and slightly watery pine. A mild citrus, mild skunk and some mellow candy fruits finally turning into some mellow Zappa exotics. Airy finish. It's all a bit airy fairy for me, just lacks a backbone, still, clean and drinkable.

Can from The Craft Beer Cabin, Bromley. Aromas of grapefruit, zesty lemon, white grape, gooseberry. Flavours are a tasty mix of the above with a light wash of sweet fruits coming through in the back end. Nice.

(Keg at Pien Shop, 20250328) The beer poured deep golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had citrus fruits, pine and honey. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were ripe fruits, citrus fruits, pine, grass, honey, biscuits and bitterness. Aftertaste had biscuits, ripe fruits and bitterness. A good hoppy brew with clean malt flavours.

440ml can. Clear golden, small white head. Aroma of grapefruit, lemon and lime, light tropical fruits. Taste is very citrusy, grapefruit, lime, lemon, some tropical fruits, mango, moderate piney bitterness to finish, a bit less than a traditional westie but stronger than the so-called "modern" ones that have none. Actually really really nice.
