A reddish-brown ale brewed with Pale Ale and Crystal malts along with Roasted Barley for a nutty flavour. Bittered with Goldings and finished with Fuggle and Mount Hood.

Bottle at the GJBF 2013 Osaka. A dark maroon color, nice looking. Some smokiness but a two-dimensional beer which is a bit rough. Not bad, an ok bitter. A bottle at home from rakuten, slightly sour, rough taste, it seems to have gone off...the color is still great and so is the body/head but it seems somewhat oxidized or something. Definitely the worse for wear. In this condition Iād give it a 2.5...

Bottle at home. It pours clear amber with a thick off-white head. The smell is old sulphurous fart....manure and earth. The taste is earth, wood, leather, varnish, pepper and a touch of citrus, with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Probably past its prime. Tastes ok, but smells pretty damn nasty. Will re-try if the opportunity presents itself.

Re-rating. Much better nose, taste and palate this time. Previous rating on 16/07/12 =5+4+4+3+12=2.8 50cl bottle. Pours a dark, slightly hazy with a nicely proportioned head. The nose has a slightly sweaty, perhaps herby, aroma. The taste has metallic flavours with a herby finish. The palate is light to medium in body with a really drying mouthfeel which continues through the long finish. Overall, the palate is actually fairly substantial and long but is it pleasant - I would say, not that pleasant.

Bottle. Medium orange with a large frothy head. Aroma is light bitter citrus. Flavour is dry medium bitter hop with a peat base. Finish is slightly toasted and dry.

Bottle from the Scottish Real Ale shop. Slightly hazy copper colour, white head. Nose is caramel malts, sweet fruits, a bit flowery. Flavour is sweet malted, fruits, bit of orange peel. Slightly bitter finish.

Cask, White Hart, Port Ellen. Brown, somewhat hazy. Mostly caramel nose with some earth. Somewhat juicy, but with toasty character in the finish. Good, mellow and complex.

Bottle conditioned, 50cl, from Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon. Bright copper with a creamy head; quite lively to start but settling down quickly; rich, oily, smoky, fruity aroma; sweet and fruity at first, with a citrus edge cutting through; leaving a dry, grassy, hoppy finish. Excellent.

Bottle. Unclear medium amber color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is light to moderate hoppy, flowers, grass, moderate yeasty, yeast, light to moderate smoke (smoked peat). Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration, and a dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (301007)

Hazy amber colour. Low head. Fruity grapefruit aroma with a peaty undertone. Wonderful hop bitterness. Peaty finish. A bit thin.
