Sampled @ Copenhagen Beer Festival 2010. Deep reddish amber body with a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet, dark malt, burnt caramel, dry fruit, some licorices and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, roast with mild bitterness. Quite nice but a bit to sweet to be in balance.

Bottle, 7%. Weak liquorice aroma. Almost black colouur, clear brown shine. Quite stable light brown head. The flavour is quite roasted and bitter, but not overly so. Distinct liquorice note. Flavourful and well-rounded.

Sample at KØ-2010. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, licorice, chocolate, coffee, alcohol. Flavour is coffee, roasted malt, hop, berries, chocolate, alcohol. Medium to full body. OK/Nice beer.

Bottled@Mallaskukko, Turku (as Pingus Imperial Stout). Very deep rubyish brown colour with small beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, liquorice, some mild hops and raisins as well. Flavour is much the same along with chocolate and some mild nuttyness.

Bottle, 75cl corked. It pours a reddish, very dark brown body under a nice, dense, beige head. Sweetish, roasted nose with salty licorice, some chocolate, coffee and alcohol. The flavor has a roasted bitterness, a good dash of sweetness, notes of licorice, and more chocolate than the aroma. Dry, medium to full mouthfeel, and a fine bitterness in the finish. Overall, this one’s a bit on the sweet side, but a nice beer indeed. 091226

50cl bottle from fakta. label redesigned, now says "Pingus", "Imperial Stout" and at the bottom of the label "ØKOLOGISK". the two birds in the middle, and the ørbæk red banner are the same. Beer is still 7% clear dark brown, smooth light borwn head, some lacing. mild aroma of licorice, roasted stuff, caramel, toffee, chocolate. flavor is english licorice, sweet caramel, sweet malts, roasted grains. towards the end it gets more roasted, and the far finish is with a little bit of charchoal. appears a bit thin for a 7% brew, but lots of flavor for an ørbæk. If i had never tasted stuff like mikkeller and yeti i’d think this was a fantastic beer ;-).

TheCheeseMan come-th and he delivered. Thanks Dan! Pours dark brown with tan head. The aroma is bursting with rich dark fruitiness like boysenberries and dark grapes to go along with a touch of caramel and roast. The taste is much the same with rich dark fruitiness like ripe sugar coated cranberries, boysenberry jam and cherries mixing with a bit of molasses and roast. It yields a delicious combination of roasted malts and dark fruitiness seeming a bit like an old ale.

thanks to the man himself, cheeseman! overly underrated beer, not sure why. pours dark brown, thin white head with nice golden lacing with some floating sediments. aroma is grainy, chocolate with possible oat, roasted malts. taste, bready notes, chocolate malts, dark fruits; possibly dry fig / dates, touch of grassy hops. Definitely a European approach to Imp stout, and a very nice beer.

75 cL bottle. Pours black with a little dense light brown head. Aroma is slight earthy and roasted malty with a mild liqourice like note. Flavour is medium sweet with a solid caramel and roasted malt base to a quite liqourice driven flavour. Ends mild bitter with a light chocolate smoothness.
