For 14 wonderful years, we have been creating libations for ourselves in the hope that some others out there would share our eccentric palates and support us. Many thanks to all of you who do! Here is yet another quirky brew: a very dark and different, dry-hopped ale. Style? hard to say, you decide. Just expect massive molasses maltiness, limitless fruits on the nose and an imposing floral & zesty dry-hop finish. Peace to all and follow your dreams!

Bomber, from Ratman197's cellar. Pours an unclear, brown color, with a medium, bubbly, tan head. The aroma is brown sugar, pine, figs, orange peel, earth, and a touch of soy sauce. Sweet and malty, with a surprisingly pleasant, dank bitterness. Heavy body, with an aggressive, syrupy palate. Probably past it's prime age, at only 12 years young! Quite tasty.

From Aug 2007

Purchased at Wilbur's in FT Collins for US$5.99

Pours from 22oz bottle(bottled in 2007) a nearly pitch black with reddish hues and a large head of foam that lingers for a while shrinking to an almost solid layer by the end of the session and it has plenty of lacing.

The smell has roasted malt, fruit, and a touch of alcohol in it.

The taste is very fruity to start. Lots of dark fruit like fig and plum hit my palate first then I get some caramel and roasted malt. After a few more sips, the hop bitterness moves in and though it doesn't dominate, it has enough of a presence to make me ask...why? When I get a Belgian Style Ale or indeed, a Belgian Ale, I'm not looking for nor expecting a strong Hop presence unless, say, I get a bottle of De Ranke XXX, or one of similar ilk, which I do love. Anywho, I'm just saying...

After emptying more of my glass, I'm starting to notice the abv a bit but it's not obtrusive. All in all, it's a pretty tasty brew; it's just not what I expected for an example of the style and because of that, I'm a bit disappointed. For a more representative example of the style, I'd need to go elswhere and that's the bottom line for me.

Bottle from my cellar. The pour is dark, almost opaque deep brown with garnet highlights. Medium sized tan head. The aroma has molasses and raisins and a touch of alcohol. The flavor is sweet, but not cloying and follows the aroma. The alcohol in the aroma is hidden in the flavor. This has held up well.

Sample at Falling Rock Beer Tasting with Dr. Bill on 10/13/2012. The beer pours a dark reddish-brown color with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. The aroma is dark fruits and malt. Medium to full body with flavors of raisins, roasted malt and chocolate. The finish is sweet with a molasses and malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall

Bomber from IrishBoy. Pours very dark brown with a creamy/bubbly tan head. Aroma is a bit of oxidation with a lot of treacle. Full bodied. Flavor has some oxidation, but there’s a lot of dark fruit, treacle and roast malt. It is finishing just off dry, and not too bitter. Still it’s tempting to say dry and bitter. The post-finish suggests cola. This ale has aged really well. Quite delicious.

Pours dark, dark brown and thick and chewy and hazy and very, very inviting. The head is frothy but restrained, with some lacing as it fades. Smells like tea and chocolate and caramel, begging you to take a sip. Tastes immediately sweet in a rush of toffee and sweet tea, yet then grows mildly fruity and bitter. The citric hops show up on the moderately bitter, clingy finish, providing a nice balance to the unending malt sweetness. Gets a little much as it warms, but still a nice bottle. (5/1/09)

I would have to answer the style question by saying that in the last few years this type of ale has come to most beer drinkers attention by stones sublimely self rightuous. This is a black ipa, plain and simple, great roasted malt aroma and flavor on the front of the tongue, and spicy and flowery hops at the back of the throat. Its a wonderful interpretation of a black ipa and an overall style that is going to become very popular in the coming years.
