A special beer for a special birthday. Brewed in 2007, the year Daniel Thwaites celebrated its bi-centenary, this amber-coloured ale is full of hoppy flavours with an orange zest finish.

Cask@GBBF2007. Golden colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is fruity hops with some wooden hints. Flavour is caramel, malts, sweet fruity hops and some sour wood. As a whole a very wellbalanced thing, that keeps you happy for a while.

A very nice example of an English bitter. Poors copper with a small amount of off-white head. Tast is a good balance between malt and hop flavours. Enjoyable out of a bottle, even better on hand-pump.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Amber with a white head; rather wheaty aroma; initial taste is of oranges, and rather sweet and creamy, there’s then a punch of bitter orange, leading to a rather sweet and insipid ending. Good in parts. Cask at the Bell and Harp, Coxbench, Derbyshire. Straw with a creamy white head; smooth and creamy with citrus flavours and a honey sweetness; gently bitter finish. Excellent.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. Copper colour with thin white head. Slightly soapy/syrupy premium bitter. I fear I’ve ruined my taste buds as all the beer tonight tasted nice. Syrupy alcohol is tangeriney. Decent hop finish. Fine.
