Cask at Kingston Arms, Cambridge, UK on 13th August 2011. Deep amber with diminishing nonlacing off-white head. Sweet caramel aroma. Sweetness continues into liquid with boild sweet and vegetable tastes. Quite sharp and acidic in finish, very smooth mouthfeel. Overall on the bland side.

Tap @ the Tankerville Arms, Longden, Shropshire. Pours cloudy amber/honey with a good head. The nose has honey and malt. The taste has malt and raisins. The palate has a medium body, a good texture but the finish is not as clean as I’d prefer. Overall, this is a decent ale, but not worth having another.

Cask at The Lamb and Flag near Covent Garden. Pours copper with a few white bubbles. Aromas of malt and medium dark fruit. Flavor is smooth sweet non-roast malt with some balancing fruity hops. Doesn’t finish very bitter, but with time the tongue decides it’s bitter. Nuts and apples? That adds up to somewhat darkish fruit? Ok. Whatever, it tasted nice.

Cask, handpump at The Plough, Adderbury, nr Banbury, Oxon, 04.09.10 Can’t belive I hadn’t rated this but then one taste reminded me why, boring amber bitter with off-white head, thin and rather ordinary. There is a light bitterness, but it lacks hops and pretty much anything else. looking at Roger Protz’s description I can only conclude that he must have been absolutely wasted on or on drugs when he described it as he did. Cask at the Carousel Lounge, Hythe, Kent. A rather unpleasant brew; gold with an thin off-white head; unusual herbal aromatic aroma; thin bodied with a medicinal vegetable flavour; little noticable finish. Perhaps just a bad pint.(5/3/4/2=8) Rerate Cask at the Round Bush, Round Bush, Herts. On Wells’s home ground, but not much better - gold with a thin white head; malty aroma; light malty flavour with stale biscuit undertones; and a slight bitterness to finish. Very ordinary, and no resemblance to an IPA. (5/3/5/3=11)
