Imperial Brown Ale
This bold, brown ale gets its body from a team of malts including caramel malt for sweetness, flaked barley for dense foam, a bit of chocolate malt for its deep color, and aromatic and Munich malts to add even more depth. German and Perle hops add a touch of bitterness to balance the malty sweetness. The addition of rich Sumatra coffee takes this perfectly balanced brown ale to a decadent level.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Prost (bottled 12/4/17 so hops should be gone). Appearance is pretty, clear red with lots of small white floaties for a bit of a snow-globe effect; tons of sparkle, 1/2-finger width beige head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is rich roasted malt, roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is as aroma with some earthy/roasted bitter balance. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with frothy texture, pleasant alcohol warmth and mild astringency, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, some bitterness present though likely from the roasting vs. significant hop contribution. Strong, well-blended malt-coffee-chocolate aroma/flavor.

355 ml bottle, from Systembolaget, shared by my son Steinar. Dark brown colour, small beige head. Aroma of cold coffee and brown malts. Distinct flavour of sharpish coffee and slightly dry malts. Not really a favourite of mine.

355ml bottle. Pours clear dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, caramel. Taste of alcohol, coffee, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, sugar, dark malts, bittersweet. Medium bodied, fine carbonation. The booziness overrides the flavours a bit but it's a pretty decent impy brown.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines and Spirits. Dark brown and very translucent. A tiny film of beige head. Oak and plum in the aroma, but I mostly smell freshly ground coffee beans. Tastes sweet and boozier than I'd expected, with a medicinal hoppy astringency in the finish. Very light body with heavy carbonation. Its a very good beer but doesn't have that fine-tuned balance that the best Founders beers have.

2$ at the large bird of prey. Dark challenging eye. Thin alabaster head. Unexpectedly candy sweet alarming nose. Taste? What taste, if you want to call tasting an alky laced sweet cloying long duration volatile impact then, there; you have it. Woo, strong fricken face frying personality. Hard to believe this is beer, you bitchen bastard, heheh. Ah-oh, Now meez thinx me getting a little dizzy thar. Yes, in the middle this is a permeating brown beer experience. The finish? Let me take a few minutes to digest this beer. When I first started, I had some human concerns, towards the bottom of my bottle, these concerns seem to be fading, heheh. Ass kicker. This is like a pennsylvanian drinkin a couple of cups o'cold stronger black coffee along with a 40 o'malt likkah. Yeah Baby!! Turn the TV on!
