Draft @ dba. I kind of liked this more than most. An almost smoky vanilla with obvious coffee & chox. Med head. Not too shabby IMO.

Notes from November 2009 Growler from Community Bev. It was either that or the bottomless keg of Duvel Draft. For...ever... young. :P Poured into one of grandma's small stemmed crystal goblet thingies. Thin, oatmeal cookie-colored head. Body is coffee with a brown ebony sheen. Smells like a milk stout. Nilla wafers up front. Cola & acidity, with a dip of coffee. Not quite ST Choklat, it's richer, bolder, roastier. Taste is mild cold brew coffee, stale Chips Ahoy, & good bit of cocoa powder. It shows promise with some richer char & milk chocolate sweetness that comes through when it's cold, but coffee starts to dominate once it hits the mid 40s. Meh. Carbonation is small, but biting. More then a bit acidic. Alcohol is a little rough, but not totally harsh. Chalky. The beer started off alright, but the growler got tired really early. The score is a touch generous. It's merely the sum of it's parts.

Draught @ Coopers Craft and Kitchen. Inky black with creamy medium sized beige head, faint mocha aroma, low carbonation, full body, bitter chocolate taste with alcohol undertones, abrupt finish with bitter coffee beans aftertaste. Quite a complex brew, like a milk stout.

Bottled 09/12. Mediocre chocolate stout, molasses and lactose mainly contribute a cloying taste. Lots better chocolate stout is out there.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/26/2013. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, biscuit, molasses, raisin, light coffee, light anise, light cream, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Ok aromas with solid balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and cocoa/molasses notes; with decent strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, biscuit, molasses, raisin, light coffee, light cream, light anise, herbal, and toasted earthiness. Lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, molasses, roasted malt, toast, biscuit, raisin, light anise, herbal, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good balance and complexity of bready/roasted malt and cocoa/molasses flavors; with good robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a solid stout. Solid robustness and complexity of dark/bready malt and cocoa/molasses flavors; and very smooth to drink. A fairly enjoyable offering.

Pitch black, small head, light lacing. Toasted malt, heavy chocolate, more bitter than sweet. Enjoyed. Nice. Recommended.

Bottle courtesy of AirForceHops. Sweet chocolate and light sour lactic aroma. Black with a large brown head. Tart lactic, earthy chocolate, and ash flavor. Medium body, flat carbonation, and astringent mouthfeel.

Bottle pour to pint glass. Dark, cola appearance. Sweet, but not real heavy on chocolate.

Aroma has some milk chocolate to it but also quite a bit of fruit esters. Lots of cherry and plum. Very faint roast note. No hops or alcohol in aroma. I also don't get any molasses. Pours a dark brown to almost black with brown highlights on the edges. Small, light tan head that recedes very quickly. Flavor starts with a lot of sweet milk chocolate. There is a bit of molasses in the flavor. The fruit is a bit less substantial but still a lot of cherry and plum. Medium low bitterness and light astringency. A very low roast flavor and a hint of alcohol in the back of the palate. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with low carbonation. Fairly creamy with low but noticeable astringency. Medium alcohol warmth. Overall this is an ok beer, but the fruit esters are a but overwhelming. I think I would like a different yeast character. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
