Black beer, thin tan head. Smells malty, with caramel and dried fruit. Flavour is a bit harsher. The ABV is very present here. Dried fruit again, caramel, lots of aniseed, vanilla. Finish has the liquorice and the booze, It leans into flavours i'm less keen on but this is less an issue with the beer and more just that it's not fully to my taste. But it's big and rich and warming and that is a big tick in its favour regardless.

3/V/24 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: +5Y, bottled: 17/X/22, lot: 20220049 (2024-266)

Clear dark brown to black beer, big creamy beige head, a bit irregular, stable, a bit adhesive. Aroma: yeasty, some banana, oxidation notes, caramel, sugary impression, a faint hint of chocolate. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very boozy up front, lots of alcohol, whisky, gentle roast, a little sweet, caramel, a bit yeasty. Aftertaste: rather bitter, lots of alcohol, more yeast, very boozy, whisky, meh. Where’s the bourbon? The vanilla? Some chocolate in the finish. Ok but not great like it used to be. Very disappointing in comparison to the CBS from yesterday.

Dit is wel even geleden, denk wel 10 jaar of zo, nog in de goede oude ratebeer tijd, toen Struise nog goed bier maakte. Moet zeggen dat het best goed te doen is, maar de score van toen haalt hij nu niet meer

Bottle, 2018. Very dark brown with a coat of tan head that's soon at the rim. Aroma of Bourbon, mocha, raisins, red berries, brioche. Soft, brioche-y texture. A little more than medium bodied, low carbonation. Bittersweet with hints of sourness. The overt Bourbon disappears into the general feel of things. Chocolate and berries creep up. Everything has room to move. Quite bitter at the end. Somehow apes red wine without being much like it at all. Great beer.

Bottle from House Of Trembling Madness. Bottled on 19th October 2022. Black body with ruby highlights and a thin beige head. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of raisin, soy sauce and Marmite. Flavour of nuts and roasted malt. Medium to full body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. A tasty, surprisingly subtle beer that drinks as easily as a beer with half the ABV.
