A fresh, aromatic special malt for NO:6 Ale is used, mixed with darker types of malt and caramel malt which produces a richer color and a balanced full-bodied taste.

Bottle from Lagomswedish, thanks Darren! Best Before April 2007, drunk on 3/7/07
Nils Oscar’s lower gravity beers are a prime example of why brewers with great talent should NEVER filter/force carb their beers. This beautiful hay-straw-golden beer is sparklingly clear, with tons of bubbles rising initially, to form a white head. But the carbonation comes out of solution quickly, reducing the head to partial cover/ring very quickly and providing little/no lacing.
Very crisp hops are complemented by immensely succulent, crisp straw-like maltiness with notes of hay and barley grains. Just a slight toasted hint that adds no acidity or breadiness but gives it that much more appeal. Honey is lightly noted, as well as a bit of light fruitiness (nectarines, pears) that adds complexity. This would be one of the better 4.2 abv beers I’ve smelled, but due to the filtration, there’s no yeast to take up the diacetyl and it’s left to wreck havoc on what would otherwise be a fantastically charming aroma.
Very much the same situation in the flavor. It’s not a diacetyl bomb, far from it, and the malt and hops are so well done that it’s easy to finish the glass. But in delicate beers like this, even small amounts of diacetyl have very significant effects on the overall flavor. The buttercreamy flavors work against the overall crispness/brightness of the beer, leaving it somewhat soggy in flavor. The forced carbonation runs out of steam pretty quickly too, leaving the beer watery and loose on the finish after only 5 or so minutes. Lovely graininess, with soft, but zesty fruitiness and crisp, aromatic and flavorful herbal/grassy hoppiness.
This beer (like the god lager and lundgrens lager) has SO much potential, if they just would bottle condition it. As Per says, the bottles don’t do it justice. Hopefully I can try it on draught sooner than later!

Bottled. A nice-looking, clear golden beer with a beige head. Some smoke-notes and hops, malt and caramel in the aroma. Malty flavor with caramel, hops and citrus notes. Nice body and a bitter finish with citrus notes. Session-style pleasant beer, but not a rave. (061012)

Bottle. BB July 05, 9 months ago. Nice, fresh, teaish hop aroma. Clear orange colour. Very small white head. The flavour is also nice and aroma hoppy with a little tea to it. A little watery, not surprising, considering ABV. Does not taste old, still nice.

Medium offwhite head of coarse lace over brown body. Sweet caramel malt aroma with roasted almond and toffee notes. Taste is very like the aroma with a softly bitter aftertaste. Slightly watery. Delicate, drinkable, interesting, and just plain lovely. I could happily drink a barrel of this.
