Open Spaces was first released in early 2017, and to this day is our most precise interpretation of a sour style. Where we take liberties and allow our love of beer direct the flavors we try to create, Open Spaces follows more closely with its base style - The Flanders Red Ale and one of our favorite styles - than our other beers. In Side Project fashion, our little twist is we barrel-fermented Open Spaces in a blend of new-to-us and mature red wine oak barrels to express and bring notes of dark fruit, cherry, a vibrant Side Project acidity and very well-rounded almond-oak-vanilla presence. These characteristics define this beer, which was aged for 4 to 6 years in oak and then bottle conditioned for 5 months before being shared with you.

Batch 2. Pours darker, clear red. Small white head. Scent is full, cherry, fleshy woodyness. Intense. Taste is full, very tart, acetic, pretty intense on the acidity (and acetic)

Flaska från Side Project, b2 2022. Rostbrun med ljusbeige krona. Lite nagellacksborttagningsmedel i doften utan att det blir för mycket. Även en gnutta kolaremmar. I smaken djup syra jämte igen kolaremmar, körsbär, körsbärskärnor, mineral, lätt sälta. Möjligen en aning magsyrevarning. Helt ok, men belgisk motsvarighet är tveklöst bättre.

Bottle from a friend. Copper red with beige head. Oaky aroma with cherries, caramel. Insanely tart, again with cherries, oak and some subtle earthy notes. Too tart and very unbalanced.

Bottle at BA Day. Pours a hazy amber with small off white head. The aroma is oak, cherry skin, dark fruit, yeast. Slick body, oak, cherry, leather, vinegar, acidic, very nice.

7 3 6 2 13Bottle shared at Hollands Spoor Tasting Club, Breda Edition. Very hazy brown with a small tan head. Aroma of tart overripe dark fruits, very lactic, tart citrus. Flavour is heavy sour. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Way to sour lactic to be good.
