Decent pepper kick from the rye.

Lear red beer, off white head. Smells of hop and rye. Flavour follows suit, with hops and rye, a bit of maltiness. Very decent .

Bouteille 50cl @ Dynamo, post Tilquin BBQ day partagée avec Vincent et Kevin. Bottled 19/01/2023, BB 19/05/2023. Houblonnée au Simcoe et Centennial.
Cuivrée oscillant sur l'ambre, col crémeux blanc-cassé.
Arôme sur un bouquet délicat malté caramel, toasté avec un bouquet discret houblonné (disons moins intense que sur une IPA) offrant de fins effluves agrumes, léger pin avec un terreux léger en rétro-nasal.
Palais reste assez classique pour une approche très américaine avec son lot de malt pâle/caramel voire une pointe de crystal, note fine houblonnée entre herbacé et résineux avec une petite touche épicée venant du seigle. A cela s'ajoute un fruité sur les agrumes/pamplemousse. Seul petit bémol, un houblonné plus avenant aurait été sympa.
Kernel continue à impressionner, c'est classique, c'est bon, pas besoin de haze ou lactose.

Tap at Penbury Tavern. Aroma is fruity with some spice. Opaque medium chestnut. Thin creamy light beige head. Medium bitterness before developing a sour streak. Spice. Rye. Underlying fruitiness. Light-medium bodied. Slick l. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry finish. Lovely soft Red Ale.

Amber ale by one of London's finest and most renowned craft breweries, hopped with old familiar Simcoe and Centennial; comes from a half liter bottle, something I never saw before from this brewery. Bought at De Apotheek in Ledeberg (Ghent). Snow white, thick and frothy, busily cobweb-lacing, pillowy, uneven-bubbled, stable head on an initially crystal clear, pale amber robe with orangey tinge and very little visible sparkling, turning misty ruddy-amberish further on, and eventually becoming all murky and brownish due to, I assume, hops residue. Old-fashioned U.S. (West Coast-ish) aroma of dried orange zest, sweet red onions (Simcoe!), pine resin (Centennial!), freshly baked spice cookies, crackers, freshly crushed pink peppercorns, spruce tips, rosemary, pink grapefruit, pistachio nuts, persimmon, dried out gherkin, brown soap. Dryish, refreshing onset, low in esters but still some restrained fruitiness if without actual sweetness (dried apple peel, unripe apricot, tamarillo), quite softly carbonated with smooth, slick body, but not too thin or watery. Cracker- and peanut-like malt core, dryish, with a pleasant toasty-bitter edge (including a spicy rye undertone adding body), complemented and eventually superseded by a confident if old-fashioned 'American style' hoppiness, grapefruity and wormwoody, bringing back those lovely retronasal aromas of red onion from the Simcoe and pine from the Centennial. Long, bit resinous but also somewhat soapy, dryish, hop bitter finish with still enough room for toasty and nutty malts to display themselves. The man who sold me this beer told me that during his prolonged stay in London, he used to drink this all the time as a 'go-to' beer and I have no trouble believing him: this is very quenching and easily drinkable, yet characterful and powerful in flavour, like an old school U.S. style red IPA almost - more even than a true amber ale, in which I expect the malts to shine more than the hops. Even shows a very light hop burn in the very end because of all those hop particles being accumulated in the sediment, but not to the point that it bothered me. Worked smoothly through this half litre without any effort, and the lowish ABV (though actually not that low to traditional U.K. standards) only accentuates its drinkability. Oldskool, but very well executed in its style, a truly lovely Kernel indeed.

Aroma: rye malts, some toffee and dough. Taste: caramel malts, dried fruits, figs a d candied orange. Mildly bitter minerally mouthfeel. Next one please!

Keg at Rutland Arms, ratebeer Sheffield mini-gathering 04Mar2023. Amber gold-brown colour, white foam head leaving lacing and aroma of malt, fruit, woody. Taste is malty, fruity, bready, rye, with alittle hop and tangy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry malty hoppy bitter finish. Nicely drinkable
