High West Bourbon/Rye Blend aged for 7 months. Layers of complexity emerge with notes of soft caramel and smoky oak over a dark chocolate and roasted almond body.

We partnered with our friends at High West® Distillery to create a barrel-aged version of Ballast Point Victory at Sea, our award-winning Imperial Porter with cold-steeped coffee and vanilla. From a blend of Ballast Point Victory at Sea aged in High West’s own bourbon & rye whiskey oak casks, new layers of complexity emerge with notes of soft caramel and smoky oak over a dark chocolate and roasted almond body. High West crafts delicious and distinctive whiskeys to honor the American West, making it the perfect pairing with our signature San Diego-born porter.

Draft @ The Stein & Vine.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown with a creamy dark tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and very likely rye and/or bourbon. Med body or so. Flavor is rather whiskey. The chocolate keeps me from deciding on rye or bourbon for sure, but I'm tilting towards rye. A bit thin for an Imperial I think, but it's quite tasty. The whiskey makes it seem dry. Good stuff.

Bottled:
Pours black with a large head. Big Bourbon aroma with notes of licorice and alcohol. Smooth Bourbon taste with a warming alcohol finish.
Might get a bit too boozy after a while.

Absolutely luscious nose of vanilla, oak, bourbon, Rye, dark chocolate and a touch of peanut butter in the nose. Fucking amazing nose. Beautiful mouth that is slightly seeet with peanut butter, oak, bourbon, milk chocolate, toasted coconuts, slightly sweet. Perfectly balance. Medium carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden. So perfectly put together. Lingering toasted coconut, bourbon, chocolate finish. Tounge tingles in the finish. Wow.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 11/7/2017. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with awesome retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, nutty coffee, vanilla, cream, caramel, brown sugar, marshmallow, toffee, fudge, bourbon, rye whiskey, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of molasses, raisins, smoke, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity or dark/roast/bready malts, vanilla, coffee, and rye/bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, nutty coffee, vanilla, cream, caramel, brown sugar, marshmallow, toffee, fudge, bourbon, rye whiskey, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of molasses, raisins, smoke, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Very mild roast/char bitterness and bourbon/rye/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, nutty coffee, vanilla, cream, caramel, brown sugar, marshmallow, toffee, fudge, bourbon, rye whiskey, coconut, toasted oak, dark/brown bread, light molasses/smoke, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, vanilla, coffee, and rye/bourbon barrel flavors; with an awesome roasted bitter/sweet and rye/bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying/acrid flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal chalky roast, oak tannins, or dryness. Mildly warming alcohol for 12%, with zero barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an amazing barrel aged imperial porter! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, vanilla, coffee, and rye/bourbon barrel flavors; insanely smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV. Extremely rich porter malt complexity and balanced vanilla/coffee flavors; with perfect barrel integration. Never boozy, tannic, or drying. Not overly roasty or bitter on malts/hops. A highly amazing offering, and spot on style example. One of the smoothest BBA beers I have had.

Poured from bottle maybe dated 10/17 hard to tell brown almost black with a beige head. Aroma is rye bourbon coffee faint vanilla and oak. Taste is boozy charred oak bitter coffee vanilla and spicy rue bourbon. Flavor continues to change as it warms. Damn this is good. Gonna let the others sit for a year.
