High West Bourbon/Rye Blend aged for 7 months. Layers of complexity emerge with notes of soft caramel and smoky oak over a dark chocolate and roasted almond body.

We partnered with our friends at High West® Distillery to create a barrel-aged version of Ballast Point Victory at Sea, our award-winning Imperial Porter with cold-steeped coffee and vanilla. From a blend of Ballast Point Victory at Sea aged in High West’s own bourbon & rye whiskey oak casks, new layers of complexity emerge with notes of soft caramel and smoky oak over a dark chocolate and roasted almond body. High West crafts delicious and distinctive whiskeys to honor the American West, making it the perfect pairing with our signature San Diego-born porter.

This beer pours black with some brown around the edges, and a medium thick khaki head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, malt, vanilla and chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and coffee. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Bottle from Alko. Poured black color with a thin brown head. Vanilla dominates aroma, bourbon in aroma. Really nice, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla bourbon warmth. Long finish. Awesome.

Keg at the brewery taproom - San Diego. Pours black with a lasting, creamy khaki head. Big snout, nice silky chocolate, some vanilla, smooth roast. Medium to big sweet flavour with moderate alcohol boost, rounded chocolate, decent ashy roast, nips of scorched earth, raisins, bent marshmallows. Full bodied, lily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, more dense cocoa character, creamy vanilla, ash. Great depth. Solid all around.

Draught at Lulu's, 1/3/18.
Dark cocoa-ebony. Tan head disappearing rapidly.
Heavy bread, bitter cacao, soy, alcohol and old, stale chocolate syrup. Just smelks tired, lifeless, burnt and bitter w moderate alcohol in there as well.
The texture is thin, watery, lifeless, with vanilla and heavy toast, heavy bready specialty malts and stale, watery coffee. I don't know what the hell happened here, though I see the high ratings for the bottles. Friend agreed w me that this was miserably undrinkable, so it's not just sone weird/off opinion of mine.

Flaska från SB. Vintage 2017. Men fortfarande bra.

Pours black into a tulip. Mocha head with excellent retention recedes to pancake surface. Vanilla, coconut and caramel aromas. Thick with dark chocolate and vanilla upfront turning to dry hot bourbon in the lasting finish.
