High West Bourbon/Rye Blend aged for 7 months. Layers of complexity emerge with notes of soft caramel and smoky oak over a dark chocolate and roasted almond body.

We partnered with our friends at High West® Distillery to create a barrel-aged version of Ballast Point Victory at Sea, our award-winning Imperial Porter with cold-steeped coffee and vanilla. From a blend of Ballast Point Victory at Sea aged in High West’s own bourbon & rye whiskey oak casks, new layers of complexity emerge with notes of soft caramel and smoky oak over a dark chocolate and roasted almond body. High West crafts delicious and distinctive whiskeys to honor the American West, making it the perfect pairing with our signature San Diego-born porter.

Sample at SBWF 2018. Black with a small tan head. Quite creamy with bourbon, coffee, oak, chocolate and some vanilla. The body was full and the finish warm. A nice one.

A deep dark porter with a thin brown head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with loads of licorice, bourbon barrel notes, woody notes, alcohol warmth, very nice and complex. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with Bourbon barrel notes, woody notes, alcohol warmth, light licorice and vanilla, very nice. On tap at Chicago location.

(Bottle, 0.355 l , from Alko, 20180923) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, vanilla, dark chocolate and alcohol. Palate was medium bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, dark chocolate, vanilla, ash, liquorice and bitterness. Aftertaste had burntness, whisky and bitterness. A bit too boozy but otherwise nice burnt brew with barrel notes.

Bottled 355ml (Alko web)
Dark ruby-brown colour, small beige head. Toasted aroma has coffee, vanilla, bourbon, Full-bodied. Toasted, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, caramel in the flavour. Sweetish vanilla-bomb but not overdose of those. Warming bourbon but not too heavy in alcohol, hides 12% okish. No wow!-factor but enjoyable.

Bottle thanks to duchammer: Poured a deep black with a one finger tan head. The aroma poured out of boozy bourbon as the nose got closer could get hints of vanilla and toffee. Taste is super boozy alcohol lots of bourbon, touch of vanilla, some coffee bean but its so subtle in this complexity.
