Bottle. Pours very dark brown. Burnt caramel on nose. Chocolate and more burnt notes in glass. A pleasant enough sipper, but I prefer a straightforward brown.

Half pint, pours a translucent brown with some creamy, off white head.  Nose has malt, toast, marzipan, some brown sugar.  Flavors of malt, brown sugar, earthy, some tree bark, Charleston Chew.  Finishes dry, medium bodied.  Easy drinking change of pace.  6 4 6 4 12

330ml bottle - Pours a very dark brown colour with a reddish tint and a small beige head that settled. A roasted malt aroma with some chocolate and dark fruit notes. Roasted malt taste with some chocolate and bitter hop flavours.

330ml bottle into schooner glass. Dark red/brown beer with foamy cream-coloured head. Some lacing. Nose is cocoa and instant coffee. Lightly bitter and refreshing with subdued chocolate notes. Very light touch of fruit in the finish followed by a long note of mild sarsaparilla. I'm drinking this ice cold in the middle of summer so probably more flavourful when a bit warmer. Still nice, though.

330ml bottle. Pours like a glass of cola, translucent and dark. Toast, biscuit, raspberry, little chocolate, touch of heat. Medium body. Pretty nice.

Tap at the brewery. Poured a clear dark brown, almost black with a thin off white head and clingy lace. The aroma is roasted malt, light dry coffee, dark chocolate. The flavour is moderate bitter with a dry roasty, liqourice, fruity hop bitter palate and a lingering smoky bitter finish. Billed as a Dark Ale at the brewery. Porter like with some black IPA characteristics too. Not an English Brown Ale for me at all.

From a 330ml bottle on 21/7/2016. Pours a deep brown with little in the way of head. The aroma features a bit of chocolate, caramel and nail polish remover. Flavour wise, you get a fair bit of chocolate malt, with a weird herbal, tart combination. Light bodied with average carbonation. I have no idea what they were going for here, but it comes across as a bit rough and unbalanced. It’s always an adventure with Moon Dog, but this one is a miss.

Bottle from Brewcraft at home. Clear-ish cola brown with dense bubbly head. Aroma is very dark bready with some bitterness. Taste is a bit empty but mostly bitter dark roasted bready flavors. Not bad.
