Cask half-pint in The Pheasant, Wellington Shropshire on 9th Nov 2016. Chestnut red body, off-white crown on top. Decent blend of hops and malts, some hedgerow fruits within both the nose and flavour, semi-bitter in nature and for me, one of Oakham’s better brews (not golden or citrusy).

York Tap, Cask. Clear amber beer, good pale tan head. Palate is smooth, airy and soft. Reasonable fine carbonation. Soft malts, very light creamy sweetness. Modest citric peel bitterness. Mildly sweet floralness. Trace of red berries. Smooth finish leaves a fair bitter linger. Soft and charming bitter.

Gravity cask at the Drayman’s Son, Ely. Amber/brown with a healthy loose cream-coloured head. Alight fine and spruce, with some sharp astringency in the aroma. Taste is mostly bitter with a suggestion of sweet malt midway through the sip. Finish is notably bitter without being acrid. Acidic, tannic aftertaste with a touch of sarsaparilla. Very good.

The flavour is over moderate bitter with a smooth dry pepper spice, light citrus hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
