Bottle at home, from an online peddler, 19/03/21. Hazed mahogany brown with a good sized tan cap that retains well. Nose is smoked malts, date, toffee, brown sugar sprinkle, dusty hops, fruit cake, medicinal tones. Taste comprises smoked malts, toffee, brown sugar dusting, dried fruits, soreen maltloaf, light spice, biscuit, medicinal tones, light bonfire. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a lick of alcohol cloaked in a smoking jacket. Decent stuff ... good balance and the smoked aspects don't runaway from a barley wine base too much.

Bottle courtesy of Dad, cheers Dad, picked up directly from Torrside. Consumed at home Attenkirchen, Friday 1st November 2019 after a 31 mile cycle ride to Allershausen and back, listening to Flower Crown - Sundries and now Pixies - Beneath the Eyrie. Pours dark brown with an off white head. Smokey but not in yer face smoke, it's good, really nice, some sweetness. Soft mouthfeel, tastes easier drinking than 9%, which is handy I guess. Rating would have been more detailed but now cooking an Indian Shepherds Pie.

Bottle. Nose is smoke, Bavarian cheese, meat, salt, caramel, fruit. Taste follows, rich smoke, caramel, cheese and meat, sweet malts, light hop bitterness in the finish. It's probably a little on the sweet side, and you could perhaps critique if for being 'one note' but it's very enjoyable.
