Cask at The Junction Tavern, London. An unclear amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel, as well as a lighter note of citrusy hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel, leading to a lightly bitter and buttery finish.

Cask@The Junction Tavern, London. Amber colour, not that much head. Aroma is wood, caramel, some earth, mild nuttyness and herbs as well. Flavour is quite much the same along with some bready and slightly caramelly notes.

Overall rating is average of both ratings: [First rate - 17/3/09 - Cask at the Hope Tap, Reading - 6/4/8/3/15] Copper-red colour with a moderate, creamy off-white head - a nice looking pint. Negligible carbonation. Taste just makes me think of autumn - woodiness, crisp dry leaves, some fruitiness (sweet apples) and a hint of smoke. There’s a crisp bitterness from the off, but this is contrasted by sweetness behind and a mouthfeel that is possibly (and this is my only criticism) just a tad too syrup-y. For an autumnal-style ale, this went down a treat on a warm spring day - it’s a top-notch example of an English bitter, and tastes stronger and more distinctive than the ABV suggests. [Second rate - 5/10/13 - Cask at The Feathers, nr Cliveden, Bucks - 5/3/4/3/9] Long time since I rated this, and perhaps my tastes have changed, but this time round I didn’t like this. Yes there’s some fruity malt and autumn leaves, but it’s beaten into submission by bittersweet treacle. Too sweet up front, and with an unpleasant dirty bitterness left in your mouth afterwards. [Third rate - 19/1/16 - Gravity cask at the Swan, West Wycombe. RB score 8/4/7/4/15 (3.8)] Astonishing condition. Fresh as you like. Deep amber with a thin white head and a light sparkle. Woody up front, lots of fruit, a bit of toffee and a good leafy bitterness. A really flavoursome bitter in great condition. Excellent stuff. [Fourth rate - 19/1/16 - cask at the Plough, West Wycombe. RB score 6/3/6/2/11 (2.8)] Fruity with some caramel. OK, but not a patch on the same beer half an hour earlier at the Swan. Boy, this beer is affected by conditioning. Overall RB score is the average of all tastes.

Cask-conditioned at the Edgar Wallace, London 3/7/08. Reddish-amber with a decent, tight off-white head. Big caramel and red fruit aroma. Sweet in flavour with a vinous edge and a short, bitter finish. Enjoyable.
