Pours clear, rather dark blonde. Small white head is persistent. Scent is fairly generic (yet great!) lambic, mild barrel expression - let it be known i'm not all that familiar with PDC - So I woudln't be able to call it out specifically, if I hadn't known beforehand. Noticably mineral though ! Taste is very full, mouthfilling acidity without going over the top. Barrels - or the little I know and expect from them - shine trough very nicely, mild oxidative notes. Very malty, fairly fullbodied, and a wide, but not to high, not too big bubbled, carbonation. Bit salty almost, very mineral. Nice barrel profile, but the real standout here is the lambic - though very modest in aroma, the taste is quite damn good indeed !
After having sipped (still a few bottles for better pours) the sherry edition, which was nothing less of absolutely amazing, expectations were high for this one. To have them met by the barrel and surpassed by the lambic, is a great thing. Boerenerf seems to continue it's path to the top of the game in both fruitlambics as well as barrel experiments. And i'm very, very pleased with that + how well they're available to us mortal flemish people :)

Geuze by Boerenerf blended partially from lambics that were oxidatively aged in barrels which formerly contained Pineau de Charentes - and considering how every damn liquor that ages in barrels has somehow, to greater or lesser extent, passed through the craft beer world meanwhile, I cannot say I remember ever having had a beer (let alone lambic) aged on Pineau barrels, though it doubtlessly exists somewhere. Egg-white, medium thick, densely structured, largely regular and retaining head on a hazy peach blonde robe with deeper amberish tinge. Aroma of old wood, dry haystack, orange pith, some farmland (faraway though), grape skin and indeed some Pineau when warming up, white wine even, apple vinegar, yellow plum, wet leather, triple sec, limestone. Vibrantly estery onset, sharp and focused, reminiscent of sour grape, lemon, green plum and redcurrants, with an acidic lemony edge and lively, champagne-like sparkling. Layered sourness continues, offering only a glimpse of 'grapey' sweetishness, beckoning from afar; it remains subtle but undoubtedly comes from the Pineau, adding a certain 'moelleux' effect on a mellowly bready, lactic-fruity, estery, colourfully sour structure. Drying woody tannins and slight background funk (wet leather) join in near the end, joined by this vinous Pineau effect, sweetish almost but not quite - seamlessly stitched into the whole, with the end result being a highly sophisticated, refined, graceful and bright lambic. The lemony acidity stings a bit at first, but is softened by the Pineau sweetness permanently but silently lurking from behind the scenes - especially when the liquid has been given the chance to 'breathe' a bit. An actual lemon taste lingers after swallowing: lambic gets the last word here, more so than in many brandy-, wine- and fortified wine-aged lambic blends I had in all those years. Less Pineau-forward than expected, in that sense, but no less elegant and refined for it. Brett eats everything, right?

Bottle. Color: Lightly hazy deep golden to orange amber, stable dense white head. Aroma: Fruity grape and gooseberry, oak wood, subtle funk. Taste: Moderate to over moderate tartness, grape, vinuous notes, some oxidation, oak wood, some rural funk. Bit minerally. Interesting complexity, although at first it just didn't match my expectations but getting more complex when standing somewhat longer. Note to myself: High ageing potentials?

On tap at Moeder Lambic Original. Pours slightly hazy blonde with a white head. Lots of juicy grapes on the nose. Flavour has juicy grapes, dusty skins, a bit tannic. Nice grape character.

On tap at Moeder Lambic St Gilles, pours a clear amber golden with a small white head. Aroma is fairly gentle, with gentle funk, a touch of leather, and some earthy mustiness. Flavour is somewhat oxidized, with light leather, moderate acidity, and gentle funk. Lots of sherry-like oxidation. It’s good but seems a bit muted. Very good.
