Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol December 2023. Deep amber in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. A touch of floral hops, berry fruits and almonds, some caramel and sweet malts leading to a moderately bitter finish. Good.

Cask at Tilly Shilling Spoons, Farnborough. Aroma is malty, fruity, gluey. Clear copper brown. Thanks off-white head receded quickly. Sweet. Syrupy fruit. Almonds. Dried fruit. A hint of bitterness spice. Medium bodied. Oily. Verging on sticky. Soft carbonation. Long somewhat astringent finish. After the aroma thought it would be too sweet but it's actually an enjoyable seasonal.beer.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading at 5.2% ABV.] A bright copper coloured pour with a thin cream head; seemingly lacking any aroma; syrupy in the mouth with lots of sugar and a grainy body; then a sour grainy finish with a trace of orange. Disappointing.

Cask at the Monk’s Retreat, Reading. Light amber with a thick cream head and a light prickly fizz. Sweet with ribena, some caramel and notes of liquorice and festive fart. Pretty much as you’d expect a UK Christmas ale to taste ie a bit crap. Great condition- credit to Wetherspoons- but still crap.

Cask at the Pump House, Shirley. 5.2% Poured a crystal clear medium amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is malt, light medicinal yeast. The flavour is light bitter sweet with a light malt, hop palate and some red berry fruit notes. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. This is about as Christmassy as Ebenezer Scrooge!

Cask, 5.2 % abv, half pint at Crosse Keys (JDW) in London, shared with Finn. A filmy layer to an unclear brownish body. Dotted spots on the glass. Aroma of caramel and Christmas berries. Sweet malt-fruity flavours with spices. Jam-like. Dry and sweet ending. Smooth in the mouth. So and so (30.11.2015).
