A burly export stout loaded with our bourbon barrel-aged coffee beans. We’ve had great success with Black House & Monsters’ Park dosed with barrel-aged coffee, but we wanted to design a beer from scratch specifically to feature these beans. Full-bodied and a touch sweet, City of the Dead will be explosively aromatic and saturated with barrel-aged coffee character.

Bottle shared at the Hackobock tasting at Craft Islington. Cheers Fergoos! It pours black with a medium tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, soft, sweet, plenty of coffee, juicy, rocky road, honeycomb and vanilla. The taste is smooth, roasted malt, coffee, rather sweet, candy, toasted sugars, wood and milky chocolate. Medium body and soft carbonation. Drinks rather easy, but is perhaps a touch sweet for what it is. Decent nonetheless.

@ Rogue Waterfront. Dark brown. Medium head. The aroma has a lot of coffee, seems like some lactose as well. Taste is mostly coffee...rich and a little bit fruity. Soft body. Touch of alcohol, but also some nice brown sugar malts.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Fergus. Pours brown with a creamy, tan head. The nose has coffee, burnt toast, hints of dry cocoa. Light sweet flavour with notes of creamy chocolate, more toasty brown bread, minimal bitterness. Medium bodied with one to average carbonation. Nicely balanced in the finish, with more mellow chocolate, low bitterness. Fun one.

Pours black into a snifter. Tan head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Soy and hot chocolate aromas. Soft with dark hot chocolate and vanilla upfront turning to coffee and cream in the lasting finish.

Clear black, white head. Aroma of coffee, loads of coffee, malts, caramel and cacao. Caramel flavour, light sweet and bitter, coffee, bourbon, malts and brown sugar. Bit lighter bodied than you’d initially expect - after all, it’s a ’regular’ stout, but the big nose led the mind to believe it was bigger and bolder. Finish coffee, malts, vanilla, bourbon and caramel. Nice!
