Paxton’s Peculiar pays tribute to acclaimed 19th century architect Sir Joseph Paxton, who designed Birkenhead Park, the first public park in Britain. A copper coloured mix of dark mild and blonde beer, this is ‘very drinkable ale with a complex array of malt, chocolate and then citrus overtones’.

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a clear medium amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is light hop, light citrus. The flavour is moderate bitter with a big refreshing zesty lime citrus, pine needle, hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Lovely and fresh and well drinkable! Lots going on here for sure. Really enjoyed this and IMO this deserves a higher rating.

Cask at The Welkin, JDW - Liverpool. Pours clear gold with a thick, creamy off-white head. The nose has some doughy malts, grain, hay. Light sweet flavor with soft lemon, bitter hay and grain husks, white bread, slight crunchy leaves. Light bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Grainy bitter finish with more dry, doughy pale malts, dirty hay. Meh. This beer definitely has peers.

Cask handpull at Ye Cracke Liverpool. Brown bitter colour with cream lasting head. Its a fruity mid brown bitter with some biscuit character that is most attractive. I like this brown bitter very much. Nuttiness on finish. Just such a change to get a decent brown bitter. Good stuff. Love drinking the local beers in Liverpool
