Bottle from Beergium. Black pour with a tan head. Sweet tobacco, apple pie, dried fruit, treacle toffee aromas. Taste is chocolate raisin, dark roast coffee, notes of calvados, more sweet tobacco. Rich, sweet warming finish. Cracking stuff.

The last in this second generation Black Damnations I had yet to taste, the calvados version, bottle 1017 of 2000. Thanks to Steve for sharing. Thin and open, pale mocha-beige ring of a head, eventually disappearing altogether; jet black beer with only about one millimetre of hazy mahogany edge. Intense nose of still very strong and pronounced calvados, hot chocolate sauce, coffee grounds, green apple, cinnamon, fresh paint, bayleaf, candied fig, sawdust and old oak furniture, salmiak, soy sauce, cola, gin. Sweet onset (candied fig) with a clear soy sauce-like umami aspect and a sourish undertone of roasted grains, soft carb as always in this series, very full, oily mouthfeel. Blackberry, fig and dried mushroom accents linger on a thickly nutty, bitter-chocolatey and toasty maltiness, ending with roasted coffee-ish bitterness, a little bit ashy, paired with drying woody tannins, a spicy hop bite and strong, heating booziness, clear calvados indeed, a bit solventy but primarily very peppery-alcoholic; earthy, leathery, spicy aspect accompany the finishing roasty maltiness underneath this pronounced alcohol effect. Intense and still 'hot' in its alcohol part, more so than the other one I had last week of the same age; a bit too boozy and calvados-forward for me, I liked most of the different whisky versions more.

750 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with moderate tan head. Aromas of chocolate liqueur, wood, creamy coffee, nougat, and dusty roasted malts. Rich flavors of licorice, sweet dark caramel, burnt marshmallows, nougat, nutty dark chocolate, and more dusty roasted malts. Still sweet but with a bitter nutty finish. Complex. Excellent.

750ml bottle shared with the KL tasting crew. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin broken tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, spicy cinnamon, light aniseed. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a rich, roasty malt, boozy alcohol, liqouirce bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with flat carbonation.

Bottle #1933/2000. Dark brown color with beige head. Aroma is chocolate, booze, wood, not so much apples. Taste is apples, calvados, chocolate. Oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Calvados Barrel is not completely for me.
