Séance is a dark, complexly concocted Saison, rich with earthy hues and flavors. A mild tartness begins the journey, and an underlying hop bitterness sweeps the senses through a newly opened door of the mind, where you will soon find subtle hints of ripe fruit, bringing you to a place few dare to roam.

Bottle. Orange and caramel malt aroma. Dark brown with moderate tan head. Lightly sweet caramel malt and dusty hay flavor. Mildly bitter herbal finish. Okay - a bit boring.

12oz bottle. A dark Saison huh, I can dig the concept. Unfiltered burgundybrown body. Thin, oily head. Sort of a mess. The dark malts are well grounded, but the fruity saison yeast doesn’t really merge with them, kind of oddly rests on top of them if you will. Porter, Dunkel characteristics. The yeast and body fail to really belgificate, but it’s still a fairly enjoyable Autumn beer.

Peculier Pub, NYC 12oz ($5): Pours murky brown wiht a beige head. Aroma is nutty farmhouse funk. Taste is like a saison with roasted malts providing a sort of autumnal overtone. I think this really fits in well in the fall season. Body is not insubstantial considering its low-alcohol. Well-balanced particularly for a comparatively rare fusion style.

Bottle. Roasty malt, Belgian yeast, light banana and chocolate aroma. Black brown with a moderate tan head. Toasty malt, light funky yeast, mildly tart stone fruit flavor with a roasty bitter finish. Medium, slightly creamy body, moderate carbonation. I wasn’t expecting much, so this one was a pleasant surprise.

12 oz. bottle. Snifter shows a dark brown nearly black color with thin ring of white head. Sheets of lacing in the tulip. Nose is hints of Belgian yeast and roasted tones. Ok, this is the first “black saison” that I somewhat enjoyed as I prefer the traditional recipes more. Flavor is a rye bread, roasted malt, hints of spicy yeast and a tone of cocoa. Sweet and spicy yeast finish. Overall, not what I was expecting yet drinkable.

Pour is a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is a nice roasted malt with a little fruity ester. Flavor is more of a roasted malt. In fact its kinda all roast and not much else. This is way more a porter than saison. It might not be the style its supposed to be but it’s still a decent beer.

Dark burnt brown to black. nose is roast with a hint of dark chocolate fairly thin mouthfeel, burnt oak, rustic and bitter at the finish. Not like a saison more like a darkened amber ale but it’s pretty good

Mildly smells like old blast furnace slag. Nice black pour, attractive. Forst taste is piercing bitter astringent thing. Good sizzle but each slug is fun stuff followed by a stab in the middle back of yer tongue. Tastes like much more than the 4.5% listed here, I’d say abot 6% Yes, sharp beer thing hangs thru for a medium while on the end. Surpirizingly good sizzle almost makes this high personality saison enjoyable. Quite unique. Perhaps a saison crossed with a black IPA?

Purple-black with a huge, light tan head. Dark fruit....smoke aroma. Molasses, tobacco, herbal hop bitter flavor. Creamy and light... Coffee, roast. A very different breed of Saison..... Quite good.

Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a black color with a small foamy beige head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was dry, woody and smoky. The flavor was dry, wood and smoky with a hint of roast beer and vague fruity hops - odd and not in a good way. Medium length finish of dry wood and smoke. Medium body. Not good.
