A beautifully balanced porter, which starts with an espresso nose and ends with a chocolate, malt led finish. A house favourite at 6% ABV, and one to recommend to stout and porter drinkers, as well as coffee drinkers.

Bottle picked up at Lidl’s. It pours pretty much black with a decent light tan head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, roasted malt, chocolate cake, coffee grounds, mocha and dried fruits. The taste is dry, earthy roast, toasty, wood, pencil shavings, chewy action, leather, cocoa, fruit cake and a touch of spice with a drying finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Taste doesn’t quite live up to the aroma. Pretty OK.

Black beer, brown bubbly head. Chocolate and malt in the aroma. Taste is the same. Chocolate, malt, coffee. It’s exactly what you’d expect but a great example of the style.

Opaque black - brown beer, good tan head. Palate is airy and soft, very mild carbonation. Mellow dark malts, dry. Mild tang and a little dry cream. Modest coffee. Trace of dark chocolate. Dry airy finish. Pretty mellow but the dry flat palate makes it a bit of an effort.

Bottle from Cork and Cask. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - coffee bean and a touch of toffee. Taste - lovely milk chocolate with a coffee edge. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a balanced dry coffee finish. Overall - a coffee and chocolate beer where these are well integrated with themalt.

330ml bottle at home. Pours jet black, thin tan head, little lacing. Head goes after a short time. Aromas largely on the coffee side of things, some toffee. Taste is where the chocolate starts to show through, a sweet edge, but nice roasted bitterness for balance. Slightly oily and slightly less full-bodied than I was expecting, but still very nice.
