Tradition and innovation, consider this a blend. We innovated by staying the course. This quadruple ale sings traditionally familiar notes of dark sugar, caramel, spice, and a Bruery twist with the addition of poached pear, for a well balanced, fruit-forward, ale. Meant to be shared over special occasions with family and friends.

Draft pour at Dominion Wine and Beer. Poured a dark cola color without much of a head. Aroma was light Christmas spices, mild fruit, sweet candi sugar. Booze. Flavor was light caramelized toffee, sweetness.

Bottle thanks to Jorden. Pours a muddy water with no head. The aroma is muted leather and dark fruit. Slick body, watery, old and no flavor.

A substantial 750 ml bottle, I do not see many of these anymore, that came from the Rare Beer Club last year. The label indicates this is a 2020 edition, no matter, it will be consumed in 2023. I have had one other of the 12 Days of Christmas brews, that was likewise a quadrupel and quite good. For this sampling I have brought out the Trappistes Rochefort glass, it is only right to do so. The pour is a dense, cola brown color with a bare touch of steadily replenished, light tan foam. The scent shows promise with candied fruit, grain and spice. I lift the glass for a drink. Very nice. Chewy dates, raisins, a hint of chocolate, yeast, dark bread, malt and a decent little touch of spiciness. A festive beer, my spirits are raised just having a taste. Another fine example of the many quadrupels I have sampled, without question my favorite beer style. My 1500th rating, I'm happy it was this brew.

Poured from an original 750 ml bottle. Aroma is malt forward with lots of caramel and toffee as well as lighter toasted bread notes and some candi sugar. Light alcohol spice. Light Belgian yeast esters and phenolics - a bit fruity with light clove and coriander notes. Some raisin, cranberry and cherry notes. Moderate oxidation with a bit of sherry and cardboard notes. Pours a murky, auburn-brown with amber hues on the edges and a medium thick, medium sized, dark tan head that recedes steadily to a small film that lingers on the edges. Light lacing and fairly long legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with quite a bit of caramel and toffee with lighter notes of toasted bread and candi sugar. Some raisin, date, prune and cherry notes. Medium light peppery, coriander phenolic notes. Light alcohol spice. Moderate oxidation that really lingers in the finish with honey, sherry and one wet newspaper / cardboard. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, this is better than expected considering the age. The oxidation isn't great, but I wonder if this will get much worse considering where it's at now. New 375 ml bottle is less oxidized, but I kinda like the roundedness of the older bottle. I'd say this beer is best with a few years on it.
