Cedar Wood American Barleywine, 25° Plato, 10.7% ABV.
When tasting Nostalgie 70s, which we now proudly present, you're sure to feel a wave of nostalgia. A strong, malty, bitter, and generously hopped Barleywine that tastes just like it used to. For dry hopping, we used trusted varieties Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic, and Chinook, delivering aromas of citrus and resin. To lighten the full body, we let the beer age for several weeks on cedar wood, which adds a subtle citrusy aroma and a cooling sense of freshness. A beast that will gently escort you straight from the pub back home.

# 4924; 3/2026. Citrus, resin, malty, fruity, slightly earthy aroma. Murky gold body; off-white head. Strong hoppy, resin, herbal, malty, alcohol warmth. Medium body; soft carbonation. Strong hoppy bitterness, lacking of stronger malty backbone, still very good American Barley Wine. Shared 0,5 l of can, BW tasting session.

On tap at BeerGeek Bar, pours a clear dark bronze with a small white head. Aroma has plenty of old wood, some toasted caramel, and bready malt. Flavour has plenty of cedar, toasted caramel, and bready malt. The cedar dominates in a good way. Very good.

Can picked up from the Tourist Information Museum shop (that sells a lot of beers) Plzeń, Czech Republic. Had this sat in Frank in the car park at Gaststätte Hirschbräu Leipheim, Wednesday 20th August 2025, we're en route to Ulm Obstwiesenfestival. Pours light/mid amber, mostly clear, mid sized white head. A little resinous, sticky with some bitterness that slowly builds. You can tell that it's American inspired, and by and large it makes a good fist of it, however it just needs to up the IBUs a tad, I guess Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is the benchmark here, but like I said, good effort.

Canned 500ml. -Courtesy of Marko, shared with him & Hrabren. Amberish coloured, small off-white head, caramel and alcohol in the nose. Sweet malty, caramel, dried apricots, noticable alcohol and candy notes in the finish. Didn't like it too much.

Can from Base Camp I guess. Slightly hazy dark amber-golden body, thick off-white head, slightly lasting. Huge milk caramel in the aroma, some stone fruit, citrus notes, bit herbal. Medium body, dry taste, caramel, herbal, citric, some woody notes, light alcohol, bitter, stronger bitter finish, actually quite okay, very drinkable for the ABV.

0.5 l can thanks to Marko who brought it from Prague, shared with Ogi and him. Unclear amber, small off-white head. Aroma is intense solvent, light caramel, light dried fruit. Hints of spice. Oily, smooth, spicy, astringent, solvent. Flavour is dried fruit and lightly toasty, along with black pepper and alcohol. Dry finish.

Tap at BeerGeek. Med body, med carbo. High sweetness, lots of candyish caramelly maltiness, also micro oxygen help present, with lots of dried fruits, raisins and such. Med-high honey flavour too. Moderate citrusy, white berries hops character, throw in some lychee. Med-high what I thin is the cedar barrel. Feels like cedar barrel, hard to describe in other words. Spicy citrus, light woodiness. Alcohol is soft in this one, moderate amount, but feels like too much still, because it lacks a bit of balancing substance, maltiness feels a bit weak. Overall pretty good though, nice sipper, even though 2 dcl is enough, not that interesting to warrant a bigger pour. Still very good.
