Founded by Brian Rides and Ray Penny in 1990 in a former cooperage of the former Arnold, Perrett & Co. Ltd premises.
In 2004, they moved into a new 50-barrel brewery in the old Arnold, Perrett brewhouse itself.
In 2017, they acquired Mole's Brewery (and its pub estate).
In 2021 the brewery closed and the brewing equipment was sold off.

The pub estate became the Wickwar Wessex Pub Company, a Bristol based pub and brands business dating back to the dawn of the millennium. Wickwar Wessex now act as a client brewer, with Butcombe Brewery responsible for brewing its two regular beers.
