Bottle @ America Strikes Back, Ulfborg. Pours hazy rich amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of malt and fruit, with notes of hops and yeast. Sweetish flavour of malt and fruit bubblegum, with notes of yeast and sparse hoppy touches. Sourish aftertaste. So-so.

This poured an exceptionally cloudy gold and in that sense I can see the nigorizake connection clearly. Mine accidentally wound up being a half & half with the EPA which gave it extra maltiness and was still actually fairly appetizing. A beer I hope to see on tap around town and better+more creative than your average sake-beer hybrid. --- Beer merged from original tick of Iwate Kura Sakamai on 08 Feb 2014 at 06:18 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 5 | Flavor - 5 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 4.5. Original review text: On tap at CBB. A light golden pour with a thin foamy head. Fruity, yeasty aroma. Lightly carbonated body, zesty citrus & yeast notes sweet. Dry finish. Somewhat watery, Ai didn’t know what style it was she said it wasn’t decided yet, maybe kolsch? Not a good sign, this beer is a miss. Really sweet, giving some kind of cherry soda vibe. Skip it.

Tap. A realy sake-beer combo. Filthy, super milky off-white cloudy color, just like a nigorizake. Can’t say it really looks nice, but it is surprising! Nose of sake, creamy, vanilla, yogurt. Tangy and creamy flavor much like a nigori but with an underlying ale quality and a lighter body. Very fun beer, and very tasty as well.

5% On tap at Eni-bru as part of a sampler set. A clear copper gold with minimal head. A very floral nose for a med-light bodied beer. The taste is fruity, I’d probably class this as a golden ale you get plum, peach, lemon fruit notes with a hearty dose of malt base. Well balanced!

The note is no longer in effect as they’ve now released the 5% version in 2014. Bottle from CBB, 490 yen, served in a half-pint glass. A clear reddish brown pour with minimal head & no lacing. The aroma is vanilla & caramel but not caramel malts more caramel syrup. The taste is caramel candy, sugary sweet, vanilla, tangy finish. Thin bodied with a light unsatisfying mouthfeel. Not sure why but it disappoints me a gimmicky beer but ok for all that. I also get a distinct corn flavor sometimes... The ingredient list says it is made with vanilla beans & over 50% malt so perhaps some corn or rice is used in making this...

Cool find #2 at this izakaya spot in downtown Phoenix. Pours black with nose of chocolate and some salty sweetness tastes of chocolate, burnt malt, molasses, light brine, and sugary finish. Could use touch more carbonation but overall nice

Draft to a plastic cup @ Nippon Craft Beer Festival 2014. Pours hazy copper with a thin layer of foam. Aroma is as it is from a plastic cup - I can detect some light fruits. Taste is somewhat lighter, rather British style IPA than American. There is some resin in the start, then fruits start to glow - giving way to a long and resiny aftertaste. This beer is not jumping into your face as an IPA for maniacs - but it feels quite nice and can be drunk by pints.
