Poured up on tap at Papago with copper – amber – red body and off white head. The aroma has some roasted malts, a bit of cherry, some sweet molasses and a soft and somewhat vague hoppiness. The taste is nice and rich with malts, roasted malts, molasses and a bit of sweet dark fruity esters. To midway and into the finish a pleasing load of spicy hops, earthy hops and bitter pine hop resin come to the surface and take over. The play between the hops and the various rich dark maltiness is tasty indeed.

Bottle. Pours with a hazy but vibrant orange hued body (a bit dark for the style), with a large, rocky white head. Lots of visible carbonation rising up the side of the glass. Good retention and good, classic belgian lacing. Aromas are sweet, fruity, quite a bit of orange notes (juice, curacao, and peel). Pear and other esters, honey, a bit musty, light apricot, minimal alcohol and candi sugar. Flavors are sweet (a bit too sweet), metallic (light), orange, boozy, candi sugar and lightly bitter. A bit musty. Some tangy orange. Lightly grainy and bready malt, estery with some higher alcohols. Warming, light acidity with lively bubbles. A touch sticky. Medium bubbles. A light carbonic bite. Feels a bit too big and too sweet.

Poured up on tap at Papago brewpub with mahogany body and virtually no head. The modest aroma offers up earthy notes, some toffee and cherries. It’s mild in strength and a bit tough to pin down what’s going on in there aromatically. The taste is a mix of dark roasted malts, coffee and earthiness. Toward midway I get some additional notes joining in like spicy hops and a sort of strawberry esteriness. It ends a touch on the dry side thanks to some roasted malts.
