… and England have failed to qualify for the World Cup, 2 Unlimited are Top of the Pops with their dance smash No Limit, Shane Warne has bowled the ‘Ball of the Century’ and Rooster’s Brewing Co. has just hatched - forever changing the shape of beer in the UK. Originators and innovators of quality, new world pale ales, with an emphasis on flavour and aroma, our beers start to stand out and turn heads amongst a sea of brown beer, with Yankee (our flagship pale ale) leading the way.

Cask conditioned at Merton Beer Festival 17-02-07. A pale golden coloured beer with great hoppy and fruity notes. This was a nice beer but one that I felt was trying a just little too hard to be something different. I felt that overall whilst this tasted pretty decent it was also a little bit muddled and the combination of hops hadn’t gelled that well. This beer was fruity, hoppy and had plenty of citrus and had some sweetness swishing around, as I said a good beer but not particularly memorable.

(Cask, White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 23 July) Colour is yellow to orange with a frothy head. Nose is very fruity with a flowery hop character and lots of citrus (grapefruit, lemon peel). Same goes for the taste: fruity, with lemon and flowery hops. Starts sweet, turns drier in the hoppy finish. A bit one dimensional, but a nice, hoppy beer.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. Slightly hazy (not quite ready yet) gold/red colour with thin off white lasting head. Typical Rooster’s aromatic US hop aroma. slightly nettlely and harsh. Lots of citrus, grapefruit and lemon flavours. Sweetish and full in mouth with juicy malt and then citrus hop zesty finish. Always like Rooster’s beers and this is no exception
