… and England have failed to qualify for the World Cup, 2 Unlimited are Top of the Pops with their dance smash No Limit, Shane Warne has bowled the ‘Ball of the Century’ and Rooster’s Brewing Co. has just hatched - forever changing the shape of beer in the UK. Originators and innovators of quality, new world pale ales, with an emphasis on flavour and aroma, our beers start to stand out and turn heads amongst a sea of brown beer, with Yankee (our flagship pale ale) leading the way.

Cask gravity at Reading BF 08. It’s funny, when you get to a beer festival you look at the beers that you wanted, but have sold out or didn’t live up to your anticipation and you are a bit disappointed. It is only when you look back at your notes and see how many stunning beers you’ve had, that you think, "Hey, that was a pretty good day!" I had a good run of excellent beers around mid afternoon including this one. Decent blond beer. Attractive citrus hop aroma. Decent Dark Star Hophead style beer. Still, a very good blond beer, good grapefruit flavour. Very decent.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Pale amber with a thin white head; tropical fruit aromas with apricot and peach; thin in the mouth with the same fruity flavours cut through with a grapefruit bitterness. Refreshing and drinkable.

Cask gravity at Nottingham BF 2007. Pale gold colour with thin whtie head. Astringent hoppy aroma. It’s a blond, astringent hoppy, typical Roosters beer. Doesn’t taste of 5.2%. Feathery hop. Nothing to do with Leffe mind.

Cask gravity at GBBF 2007. Gold, lasting bubbly beige head. The inital yeast aroma dies down to a slightly citrusy aroma. A reasonable Roosters beer, but lacks it’s usual oomph.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London 26 Apr 2007) Pale amber/orange colour with brief white head. Fruity nose with notes of grapefruit and orange, slightly soapy and floral. Fruity, floral taste with mandarin, lemon and honey. Sweetish, but with a nice hoppy bitterness in the finish. Nice session blond.
