Description
Our beers are crafted for a chosen few, a small cadre of renegades and rebels who enjoy a beer that pushes the limits of what is commonly accepted as taste. In short, we make beer for people like us.
Our taproom experience was born in 1997 in downtown Grand Rapids, MI, when our Co-Founders decided to start a brewery and realized immediately that the only way they could earn some cash (the brewery was losing money during those first years) was through bartending. With its super-casual vibe, gritty feel and amazing beer, the taproom quickly became a haven for many misfits, artists, musicians and more in Grand Rapids, outgrowing its tiny space quickly. The good news was, so did the brewery. Our entire operation moved to its current downtown Grand Rapids location 10 years ago to accommodate this growth and has since maintained the relaxed atmosphere and “all are welcome” approach to those who walk through the door. What’s next for our taproom? A second one, of course! We’re headed to Motown and hope to bring our Founders feel to the heart of the Cass Corridor in downtown Detroit.

Deep copper body, medium to thin cream head. Crisp resinous nose with light toasted malts. Firm and sharp body with citrus peel and pine and just enough nutty, sweetish malt to provide flavor but not weigh the body down. Really nice job by Founders on this new seasonal offering.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with a copper hue and a white head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has sweet bread and light toffee with some caramel and a touch of light fruits. Flavor has sweet grains and bread with a bit of toffee and caramel underlying.

Crowler c/o Ryan. Heavy, thick chocolate tone. A little undercarbed. Mellow and heavy, full bodied but not overbearing.

Can from Busch's. Pours a deep chestnut to dark amber with a full finger of beige head that lingers. Caramel, pine resin and toasted malt aromas. Soft mouthfeel on the palate with a finish that leans malty. Toasted malt and caramel on the finish.

Bottle.
A- Black color, black liquid, brown head.
A- Chocolate, oak.
F- Oak, slightly bitter finish, roasty, bakers chocolate.
T- Full body, slightly thin texture, average carbonation, slightly tangy finish.
O- Not the best KBS variant. Too much oak. Gave off some tangy notes and a bit drier that I would've liked. Okay.

Bottle - black pour - heavy on the coffee, with slight abrasiveness, but not substantially so - warming, but not boozy - the maple is present, but not overpowering - oak is fairly strong throughout - finish had a light sharpness, but on the whole largely balanced - it’s good.
