Description
Alexis Jones started up Mad Dog Brewing Co Ltd in October 2014 brewing from his kitchen at home. Closure of the brewery was imminent in early 2020, but later in the year the brewery was taken over whilst re-employing the former director as head brewer. Then located on a small industrial unit in Penperlleni.

In February 2022 we moved the brewery from our small unit in Penperlleni in to a larger, more dynamic space in the heart of Cardiff city centre. The move enables us to brew in larger quantities, and with the aid of some brand new equipment, hone in on our brewing processes to drive the quality of our beers forward!

In the same month, we opened our flagship taproom at the same venue as the brewery, meaning that we now have the perfect spot to deliver our beers at their freshest and tastiest!we are brewing on a modest 6bbl kit with 6 fermentation vessels. With Alexis leading the brew exploration, the team remains small and close knit each pitching in to help the other.

Mad Dog Brewery strives to produce an eclectic range of top quality, exciting beers from sour pales to hefty imperial stouts and everything in between. Utilising our fantastic Welsh water and the very best ingredients, we are able to
produce beers of outstanding quality to satisfy even the most adventurous and inquisitive beer aficionado.

Lightly hazy gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is light, fairly dry and is minerally crisp. Light smooth malts, mild to medium sweet. Hops bring fresh grapefruit, cooling pine and mild floral sweetness. Orange peel bitterness. Light pith and a whisper of Mosaic blueberry. Semi dry finish. Nice.

Cask at the Alehouse, Reading. An amber pour with a ring of cream head; cereal grain aroma with some orange juice; sharp zesty orange taste with a biscuity body; and a lingering orange finish. A good use of Mandarina Bavaria hops.

Cask at the Alehouse, Reading. A golden amber pour with no head; fruity grain aroma; sour grain taste with some medicinal herbs to finish. A strange brew.

Tap at Castle Tap, Reading. Vague citrus aroma. Hazy dark amber. No head. Tart. The lemon comes through but also had a vinegar element. Light bodied. Long finish. For me just not balanced.

Pours a murky amber color, topped with a medium small off-white head, but nicely lasting. A hint of fruit in the aroma with some easily noticeable nutmeg presence that gives a bit of that familiar wintery vibe. Medium bitterness in the taste finishing with that bitter nutty flavour that sticks with you for some time. Dry finish. Nicely drinkable, though it may come too strong if you don’t like the nuttiness.
