THE UNEXAMINED BEER IS NOT WORTH BREWING
There comes a time in every man’s life when he must ask himself – Should I continue working my steady and lucrative job or should I just quit and make beer? Well, for Norfolk-native Porter Hardy, the decision was a no-brainer. In 2012, the former home-brewer (and now former lawyer) traded his ties in for tap handles, and never looked back. With a stellar team around him, Porter entered un-fermented waters as one of the original craft breweries to set up shop in Hampton Roads.

Pounder: Dark roasted malt, coffee nose. Mahogany, thin tan head. Charcoal, raisin. Full body, easy carbonation, chalky, subtle prickly heat. Enjoyable, but perhaps a little timid. I expected a little bolder spice character.

Crisp, fairly hazy copper and bronze coloured body with a thinnish, relatively fast-dying off-white head. Aroma of very bright and tropical fruits with some light pine, a touch of grass and perfume and ending with some light sugars and a bit of guava and oranges. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive biscuity and grainy malt flavour at first with a heavy hand of amarillo and more earthy and grainy hop flavourswith a touch of grass near the end. Aftertaste shows the pure biscuit flavours, a bunch of yeast, a larger dose of more earthier, mushroomy and oatmealish malts with a high bitter quality from the hops without too much complex characteristics. Overall,a relatively potent and pungent APA with some nice tropical fruit notes and quite a big earthy quality that shows well. Nice enough to sample, but not worth going way out of the way for or trying to find. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Food Lion in Onley, Virginia on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 27-January-2018 for US$1,67 sampled at home in Washington on 30-January-2018 just three days later.

16 oz can shared by a friend, thanks Sam! Dark brownish black with light tan head. Aromas of spice, roasty notes. Tastes of bitter slightly burnt ground coffee, dark chocolate. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Pretty good attempt. Would like a bit more body and less bitterness in the coffee notes.

Somewhere: pours amber with large off white head. Very light amber and bread aromas. Taste is pretty subdued. Lightly sweet. Easy drinking but very boring.

Can from jcos. Pale gold. White lace. Grass, spice, and a little lemon. Tingly, a little dry. Clean and crisp enough. Solid.
