Can - turbid gold with a faint lace - nose and flavor have a fair balance of lactic tartness, Brett funk, and acetic punch - neither becomes to overpowering - the oak dries things out and adds a nice tannic character - late funky peach, but otherwise the fruit is subdued - pretty solid.

This beer is a hazy straw-gold color with a medium thin white head that evaporates quickly to a film. Short strings of lace. Aroma of peach, oak, yeast and malt. Medium body with flavors of vinous oak, peach, yeast and doughy malt. The finish is oaky and fruity with a peach aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

12 oz. can purchased at Total Wine & Liquor in Colorado Springs, CO. Pours a hazy gold color with a white head and great retention. Good lacing. Light beer aroma. Tastes like a Helles lager. Light sweetness with a doughy backbone. Soft mouthfeel. Okay.

renegade sickle and hammer Super deep, almost pitch black coloured body with an almost 95 opaque black glow, with a nice three to four centimetre tall rich brown head. Aroma of alcohol, roasted malt, peat, light smoke, a good and relatively strong dose of soy sauce, meats and mushrooms with a large bitterness present, but mostly from the roasted malt and alcohol. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rich roasted malt and chocolate flavours dominate with a strong coffee presence, but the peat, meat and soy sauce flavours manage through this initial flavour with a lot of funky and deeply umami profile that dominate throughout and overpower just about everything else with this one, especially the sweetness. Aftertaste shows more of the meat and soy sauce notes with a large sweetness of chocolate and pitted fruits, but the bitterness remains from the peated malts and from some lighter cacao powder or chocolate that still shines through. Overall, a strong and malt, earth and especially umami-forward beer that shows much of those notes and less of the sweetness and robust malt character that most Imperial Stouts are known for. I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased by my boss on 02-January-2016 from Colorado Liqour Mart in Colorado Springs, Colorado - Thanks Jeff! Sampled just over four years later on 06-January-2020 after just returning from Denver (from Kauai as a layover of course), Colorado a few hours ago, at home in Washington.

Glass at the brewery (served in what appears to be a kolsch glass of all fucking things) - deep black with a substantial tan head - the rye whiskey is super prominent in this one, both in the nose and flavor - so much so that the characteristics of the base beer are swallowed a bit - the chocolate, coffee, and bitterness do come through in the middle and finish - but this one is a definite whiskey bomb, and a sweet one, at that - that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it does make this the flavor equivalent of being bludgeoned in the head.

Tulip at the brewery - dark ruby, nearly black - medium body - quite sweet, with notes of vanilla, coffee, toffee, light dark fruit - moderate bitterness comes through the middle to try to balance, with mixed results - it’s decent but a little sugary.

Can. A- Coriander, citrus. A- Yellow color, hazy liquid, off white head. T- Coriander, orange peel, wheat, slightly tangy citrus. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, herbal finish. O- To be fair, this beer was over 18 months old and a year after the best by date. That said, I still expected more passion. Loads of coriander and spice, a decent beer all things considered but the name is misleading.
