Description
Located in the heart of the picturesque Pennine town of Holmfirth, The Rose and Crown is affectionately called ‘The Nook’ by all those who know it well and frequent it regularly. Owned and run by the Roberts family for two generations, The Nook has been serving the people of Holmfirth and beyond quality ales in fine condition for over 50 years. In 2000 Ian Roberts and Sheila Sutton took over the business following the passing of their father, David Roberts. Since then Ian and Sheila have followed in their father’s footsteps continuing the proud real ale tradition of the Nook. The Nook Brewhouse is a bespoke purpose built brewery and is the next chapter for the Nook’s real ale legacy. It stands on the site of a previous brewery dating back to the 18th century and has been designed to make the most of natural and local resources wherever possible; Gravity to aid the brewing process, warm energy from one brew to heat the next and the cool cellar which is built deep below the water line of the River Ribble and is perfect for conditioning our ales.

In 2009 they revived a local brewing tradition by building The Nook Brewhouse on a site to the rear of The Nook

Holmfirth 'Last Of The Summer Wine' Tour & Bar Crawl, Beer#8. Clear slightly deeper golden with a fine head. It wasn't the best sitcom in the world, but is to date the longest running. This isn't a typical best either, it's very hoppy, in both aroma and taste, with minimal bitterness and a gentle sweetness. Hoppy in the main though and very sessionable within its own style.

Holmfirth 'Last Of The Summer Wine' Tour & Bar Crawl, Beer#7. Clear golden settling ale. Drinking this one around the corner from Ivy's Cafe, which is still a café. Hoppy ale, very sessionable.

Holmfirth 'Last Of The Summer Wine' Tour & Bar Crawl, Beer#6. Deeper clear golden with a decent head. Solid pale in style, just as solid as Crusher was from the TV series - the rhubarb however is pretty light and serves to give the experience only a light added fruit sweetness. Enjoyable, and enjoyed in front of a very warmth giving open fire in the atmosphere brewery pub of Nook.

Holmfirth 'Last Of The Summer Wine' Tour & Bar Crawl, Beer#5. Clear blonde coloured, easy, and very hoppy in design. A perfect example of a session blonde beer carrying a light sweetness to proceedings. Marina was always blond in the series. Warm enough to sit outside in the town centre to enjoy this enjoyable pour in December.
